Official UA/AU post game thread...

Not getting those 10 points in the 2nd qrt bout sums it up. We had our chances. Maybe next year... dang i'm tired of saying that. Sounds like a barn fan from the 70's.:mad2:

Amazing how after we beat Ut they went on to atlanta and we went into the tank.
I dont understand why every year it seems Auburn plays with twice the emotion in this game than Bama.

In the last three games our half-time adjustments have went in reverse. Or did our coaches even make any? Have we even scored a TD in the second half of the past three games?

In bullet point format:

We left at least seven points on the field in the first half between the missed FG and the intercepted TD (which DJ sure as heck should have caught).

Auburn benefitted from some acting on calls, but that didn't decide the outcome of the game.

My prediction at the start of this year was that the defense would have to lean on the excellent offense all year long. Boy, was I ever wrong. This year the D has really stepped up and played better than they had any right to while the offense has not done anything against some seriously inferior opponents.

Whether we go to a bowl or not, you can expect a totally different mental outlook from the team next year after the effects of graduation, cutting players, and some people just plain quitting.

On the plus side, the OL actually played better than I would have thought tonight.

We probably would have won at least the Miss St. and La Monroe games this year if that stupid textbook suspension thing hadn't happened.

The injury to Brian Motley in preseason had a bigger effect than anyone predicted at the time.

Finally...

Where can I adopt that dog???

Mistakes. No heat. Not Alabama football.

I'm sure I'll take a lot of heat for this; but the reality is that this IS Alabama football.

This is what Bama brought in Nick Saban to change. One season's gone and record-wise --- which at the end of the day is the bottom line --- nothing's changed.

Don't get me wrong, I have full faith that Saban will turn this thing around. I'm just having trouble at the moment seeing much progress at all after one season. I'm hopeful that come next Labor Day weekend, it's a different story.

I feel a little bad that I am going to curse at the first several Barners that mention this game. And a little worse that I am going to mean it.

The end.

6 in a row to Auburn. I am so sick of losing to these guys. Alabama simply CANNOT make a big play when they need too. They lost this game in the first half IMO. A missed FG and then the should have been TD catch by DJ Hall costs the team 10 critical points.

And the roughing the passer by our defense late in the game was pure stupidity in its highest form. The ball was out of Cox's hand quite a while and then comes the late hit. Even the announcers said it was a stupid mistake.

I hope Saban has some serious competition at QB position next season, or it will be another long year with JPW at the helm. He rushed way too many passes tonight.

I for one will be glad to see the Shula slackers gone from this team. It's hard to motivate a team that gives up after losing the LSU game. Bama doesn't deserve a bowl invitation, after this 4 game slide. Only one complete game all year and that came against Tennessee.

I think we'll all need a few days to give an accurate assessment to the season as a whole.

For tonight, I thought that offensive gameplan was iffy. I loved that we ran the ball and took control of the line of scrimmage for the last part of the first half. I'm very confused about what we're trying to do when we go to an empty set and I thought there were times when our playcalling got discombobulated and never really got in a good rhythm in the second half. And the fact that no WR had a catch in the 1st half is pretty unacceptable with 'such a great group of WRs.' I was hoping that Caldwell would help at RT - I'm afraid 'Toine isn't going to grade out too hot on this one.

Defensively, I thought the team made adjustments after the first drive and played pretty well. Stupid penalties and not having enough beef to stop the late TD and the last drive certainly didn't help.

If you didn't know the issues inside the program, you'd think that much of the last month falls on the coaches. From what I can gather, what we've seen is the pile of dung that has been in the digestive tract of this team for a long time. I was hoping the team would come out with a chip on their shoulder - instead they came out looking way too tight.

We had our shots - but good teams finish things off when they have the chance.

Oh, can I say this - Leigh Tiffin for most improved player of the year. He's grown a pair and played great down the stretch.

I feel robbed. Those two calls the ruffing the kicker and the ruffing the passer where both acts. We were even pushed into the kicker, and the spots where horrible. I know we still have a slight opportunity for a bowl but I cant belive after such a great start our record is still the same as last year. But I think I'll feel better in a week or two. Roll Tide

That is the most complete game either team has played all season.
Frustrating game, but I will give credit where credit is due and say that Auburn played great defense tonight, especially rushing the quarterback and in pass coverage.

I'm not sure what you mean by a complete game, but if it discounts the shellacking Alabama laid on Tennessee, I'd rather have an incomplete or imbalanced game in which we dominate the opponent.
