So true. What were they thinking? Are they so delusional that they think any big time HC with choices will be willing to come to Hattiesburg to play in a 33,000 seat stadium (Which is seldomly sold out.) and for 275 thou? And if they do get someone there that does good, he'll be gone in the blink of an eye to a bigger stage. In Bower, they had a good coach who they could depend on.

I don't understand this move at all. It's not like USM is going to contend for a national championship.

Bower did a very good job for them. Bone headed move on USM's part IMO.

He could very well end up in Oxford. He would be a good fit for the SEC. He always played the SEC very tough. Plus it's just up the road from his current home.

Wow -- that one shocks me. Seems like yesterday that he lost his 16 year old daughter in a car accident. Isn't she is buried in Hattiesburg?

They may know something we don't but I think it's a bad move for USM.

And we as fans expect our coach to be loyal, How loyal has Bower been. Coaches have to go with the money.

From some of my Miss State buddies-
I called and was asking what was going on at Southern- According to them is that word leak out from the AD's office that JBower was going to resign at the end of the year, however the AD's office forgot to ask JB about the situation. He was going to be offered a position in the football administration. When JB was called into the AD's office he refused to resign and then the AD was forced to fire the coach.
By being fired he still has some years on his contract with very little restrictions. He can now take another coaching job and still be paid by ther University plus he will meet his retirement status in the Mississippi Retirement System.

Unknown to me is that many Southern fans are really for a coaching change. And with their lowering attendance at football games and they fact that they are building on to an already 1/2 filled stadium, make a change the best interest in the eyes of the University. But this move may backfire on them.

Ahhhh the expectations of the nouveau riche ....
Every small schoolhas expectations that the next hire will give them the Boise State effect.

Residents of Hattiesburg are dancing in the streets. Attendance was terrible this year! No ONE wanted to go to USM games. As a resident of the 'burg people were just tired of bland boring football. Granted USM won games, but they did it as the crowd went to sleep. Play calling here has been abysmal for years. USM is ready for new blood and excitement in their program.

Didn't UA fans complain about Gene Stallings coaching boring games?
