I wanna start things out by saying that I am 17 years old. I know nothing of the glory days, my family has always been Alabama fans, but I never started to get into it until 1998 when I went to my first Alabama game, I will never forget that feeling. I was on the upper deck and I remember seeing Shaun run. I was in love, I had never felt anything like it. I remember feeling so betrayed in 2002 when Coach Fran left for Texas A&M that I couldn't help but cry. I called my Dad and asked him how anyone could leave this university. I know nothing of the glory days, they are nothing but a great story to me. I have been for Alabama during it's worst point in it's glorious history but I still love it more every day. I know the future is so bright that we need shades. I saw the future of the Tide in 2007, where it might not have been a good year, where there were so many disappointments, but I saw the glorious future of Alabama football on a day when most probably didn't, I saw it in the last few minutes of our sixth straight loss to the other school in this state. I saw a freshmen named Rolando McClain fight and give his all until the very last second and I knew that this was it. When I saw McClain fighting to tear the ball away from Brad Lester, I stood as proud as I ever have been to be raised to love our glorious University. I love Alabama football. There is nothing like it in the world, it is the greatest tradition in ALL of sports. My friends we will be back, it is a process and I am SO excited for it. I'd like to know why my other Crimson brothers and sisters love the team that I love so much, so why do you love Alabama football???

Because I feel the exact same way about a program and it's history, that people 40 years ago felt.

Because everytime I see a game live, the national anthem at Bryant Denny can easily make me tear up.

Because flyovers at BDS make me proud to be an American and thankful for the men and women who fight for the country.

Because my first game was the 1992 SEC Championship against Florida in the freezing temperatures. It instilled in me a forever love for the Tide.

Because I didn't miss 1 game for 3 entire seasons as a student the past 3 years.

Because I just graduated this past Saturday and I love the University and anything affiliated with it.

You've been raised right.

I love Alabama football because it's as much a part of me as anything. Without it, there's a HUGE hole. I was raised on it and ever since my first game (1989 Kentucky), I've known nothing but Bama football since then. Some people see being a "fan" as a passive thing, but any Bama fan knows it's more than that. It's part of what defines you as a person. You live and die by what happens every Saturday. It's the great camaraderie between fans and knowing that no matter what month it is, Alabama football will be the topic of discussion. I love it because it's been a huge part of my life and I can't imagine life without it.

Bama from birth . I was lucky enough to exprience the 70's and I wish fans as young as "TheCrimson6512" could've lived through them as well . What must sound strange to the younger fans of today is that people just sat around and discussed Coach Bryant in the way that most people debate Bama football today . Not just Bama fans , all college football fans . It was a glorious time .

I sure hope that this young generation can experience "greatness" again like years past. My brother is starting at UA next year and I think he's arriving at the best time possible. The next couple of years should be exciting.

Whoops, sorry.....:bs_offtopic:

My first memory of Alabama football, I was around six years old, My father was putting up the antenna at our new house and he had the radio on. He had ran into some type of trouble and the game was already on. If my memory serves me correctly, Alabama was down at the half by several scores. We got the antenna up and watch the second half. Alabama came back and won the game. Again if my memory is correct we shut out Tennessee in the second half. This would have been around 1971.

I grew up in Northport, so as I got older I would go to the stadium and sell cokes for free entry. I have always been a Crimson Tide fan, my children are Crimson Tide fans and if they want their inheritance their children will be too!:rolleye2:

My granddaughter was riding with her mom and another little girl to a school function. May granddaughter was wearing a Bama shirt. her little friend asked her why she was a Bama fan and my granddaughter replied, "I inherited it from my PawPaw." I guess I "inherited" it from my dad.:cheers2::cheers2::cheers2:

It's an emotional attachment that I can't explain. I am 53 years old and have been following Bama football for 42 years. I remember 1964 when all my in-laws went crazy in the TV room when Joe Willie would make a perfect pass in the end zone. It's funny to think that my emotions are effected by the play of 19 to 21 year old kids. There's just something about the crimson and white, the uniforms against the green field, the crazy fans, and the lore of the old gravely voiced man. I never met Coach Bryant, but when he was in Tuscaloosa, things were just right with the world, I don't care what was happening, one look at that face and hear that voice and everthing was ok. It was just a big part of my youth and it has stayed with me all these years. Even though the last 10 years have been hell, Alabama football is part of my DNA. :BigA:

--Grew up in it
Mom's a fellow Capstone grad, as are all 4 of her siblings; Dad would've gone to UA had he been able to go to college; 2 aunts I grew up around (Dad's sisters) are huge fans--one was Mom's roommate back in the day, & the other just loves Bama. My Grandpa actually was ordered by his Dr. to not watch nor listen to any Bama games due to his heart condition. Papa tended to get a tad fired up about it back in the early/mid 60s...

--Got to experience it 1st hand
As noted elsewhere, first game live was the 73 Sugar Bowl loss to notre dang. Sat next to Dad; still recall the feeling. Also, got to shake hands with Coach Bryant as part of that.

Later, got to attend Bama & was there for the end of Coach Bryant's run. The pregame walk, the hat tip and/or wave by the man to the student section, Iron Bowl's split 50-50 good guys & bad guys, the captains' hand- & footprints around Denny Chimes,...I was in the stadium for "I waxed the dude," "the Kick," the Sack, 315,...good times!

--John Forney on the radio
Used to love to hear him do a game. That is prolly while I still try to listen to a game of someone's every year on the radio while not watching any other game (pref. ours, of course)

--Nowadays
Living amongst a bunch of USM whiners & MSU jerks, I've very much enjoyed being able to walk tall over the last 18.5 years around here. Even this year after the MSU game, I was able to shut the noise down pretty quickly with "I'm gonna support my team, win or lose...unlike many of y'all MSU types." I still remember going to a Bama - USM game with a bunch of USM types who were blathering on about their "tradition" & "we're just as good", "what's the big deal about Bama," blah, blah. And then we walked into the stadium, & they saw roughly as many people as live in the entire Pine Belt area of MS piled into one place, mostly wearing Crimson. And the video fired up. And my team entered the stadium. And they got real quiet...

"Ladies & Gentlemen, Welcome to the Greatest Tradition in College Football; THIS IS ALABAMA FOOTBALL!!"

That's a good start as to why I love it. Thanks for asking!

I was raised right.

I'm 42 and got to experience alot of the glory years. If you grew up in that time period how could you not be a Tide fan. I have a couple of friends my age that are Aubies and I just can't understand how they turned out that way.

Maybe, you are born gay? Maybe, you are born an Aubie? Maybe those are questions that cant be answered.

Same generation and same feeling. Wish you younger guys that only know the Crimson Tide over the last 10-15 could have been a part of it. I've witnessed 4 NC years and actually had the privilege of meeting Coach Bryant when I was a youngster.
Being part of the BAMA nation is as natural to me as breathing. It is to my Dad and was to my Pawpaw and my great grandfather.

I was born in 1980 and remember seeing pictures of me as a baby wearing a t-shirt that read "When I grow up I wanna play for the Bear." I never lived in the state of Alabama until I was 22 years old. I have watched games in Athens, Gainesville, Knoxville, and an Outback Bowl in Tampa. I always loved the Tide (was raised right) but I was always in enemy territory. The UGA fans told me I wore "that funny color of red." I remember my brothers and I avoiding Auburn shirts in the store like they had cooties. I can't wear another team's hat or shirt. I just don't look right in anything but crimson and white. I never made it to BDS until the huge win over UF a few years ago. It was the greatest game I have ever been to and I can't get it out of my system. My wife has never been to a game at BDS and I can't wait to get her down there so that she will understand why I get up on Sat. mornings and crank up "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Yea Alabama." She will then understand why I pull out the shakers and sit on my recliner yelling at the tv. I love Alabama football because I couldn't imagine cheering for anyone else.
