Cadillac Williams: Career Over?

I know this does not involve an Alabama player, but nevertheless...

Pro Football Talk, which for those who don't know is probably the best football news site around, just posted a blurb saying that it is currently being mentioned on the rumor mill that Cadillac Williams' playing career may very well be over.

I hope this isn't true, but I'm afraid it might be. There were a lot of rumors circling about it being a possibility when he originally blew out his patellar tendon earlier this year against the Bucs, and apparently the past five months or so have done nothing to help anyone feel better about the situation. At the very least, it was a really ugly looking injury, the severity of it was obvious from the start.

Anyway, I know it is not a 'Bama guy, but I figured it was worthy of posting. I hate to see it, but I'm afraid that may be the case.

I hate this for anyone and the fact that he played for Auburn has nothing to do with it. He is from the state of Alabama and that alone makes me pull for him. I do not get any joy in anyboby getting injured. I'll pray for him.:BigA:

I agree with all that. It's a shame if he can't play again.

As a Bucs fan, I've kept up with this and it doesn't look good for Caddy at all. Too bad - I don't think he had one season with the Bucs where he wasn't injured somehow, and he is/was a nice back to have in the back field...

That being said, I can't let a Caddy post go by without this:

I hate it for him too.

Back during the Carnell recruiting frenzy many people said he could play RB and be the next often injured running back in the NFL whose career was cut short or he could play FS and be the next Ronnie Lott.

Yeah, the talk is getting louder here in Tampa that he may be gone. The staff is looking at the RB's in Mobile (Sr Bowl) this week. I know that Ken Darby is still on the active roster and not the practice squad, but that could change by summer camp. Carnell is not an every down back and Gruden tried to make him one. Truly sad to see anyone lose their career to injury.

I hate to her this, however with the exception of his senior year I don't think he ever played an entire season, He isn't a very big back and was unfortunately used as an every down back by both Tubberville and Gruden, a bit like we tried to use Grant this past year out of necessity with the same results. Which is why Saban has gone for so many freshman backs.

Note to freshman, don't plan on redshirting.

bucs fan here.

although i think, when he's healthy, he's as dynamic as any runner out there, i wasn't happy when we drafted him for this very reason.

he's always been fragile.

the bucs would have been better off trying to hold on to warrick dunn.

i feel bad for carnell, but i'm sure he's made a couple dollars over the last few years, so unless he's been a total moron about it, he'll be okay.

Probation didn't cost us Cadillac, Fran not showing up for his recruitment visit did. The story goes that the Williams literally left the light on for Fran and he never showed.

I believe you are right about that. Fran was supposed to make two visits that evening one to Brodie Croyle and the other to Carnell Williams. Fran spent so much time at Brodie's he never made it to Williams house. Carnell and his family felt like they had been snubbed by Fran and checked him and Bama off their Christmas card list.

I bet now that his career is over he wished he would have gone somewhere else instead of the barn with that Soc. degree that is worth nothing!

Dude, you made my morning. I laugh uncontrollably every time I see that.

And yes, he stays hurt. If I'm not mistaken wasn't he hurt in his junior or senior year at the barn as well? I hate it for him, but as a Bucs season ticket holder, you have to have somebody that is durable and about the only time he has been durable was his first three games in the league, in which he hurt his foot during that time. Gruden has questioned his ability to play through injury on more than one occasion.

Nonetheless, thanks for the laugh!!

He has a degree. That, and his experience as an NFL player, will open a number of doors for him. He will be fine.

He got to live his dream, albeit for a shortened time period. But how bad can it really be? He still has a huge leg up and should be able to make a very good living outside of football if that is the direction that he chooses...

100% correct, I've taken Prednisone off and on for bronchial/asthma problems for several years and was diagnosed with the same problem that Bo Jackson had when he had to give up sports "Avascular Necrosis" and am looking at hip replacement in the near future. The doctors asked me if I remembered when Bo had to quit sports and said you have the same thing that he had.
I wish Cadillac the best .

He's had to take a lot of prednisone and related steroids, which weaken both connective tissue and bone...
