Atlanta hotels? (Clemson game)

With the way gas prices have shot up, my wife and I are going cheap and booked at a Fairfield Inn about 8 mi from GA Dome ($85 a night on Hotels.com). We're driving from P'cola to Tuscaloosa, to drop our daughter off at the grandparents', then driving to Atlanta the next day. We are staying in Atlanta 3 nights and plan to visit the zoo and the Aquarium. Should be a fun weekend, but I hope we don't have a long, depressing ride home on Sun.

Embassey Suites @Perimeter Mall. You're about 1/2 a mile from a MARTA station, plus you get free adult beverages from 6-7 in the evening and a free breakfast (full meal not that 'continental crap') that is as good as most any restaurant. Still one of the best values in travel.

There are a number of good motels & hotels in the Vinings / Smyrna area near my humble abode. All you would have to do on gameday is go down Atlanta RD or S. Cobb Drive and you would avoid ALL the ridiculous repaving in midtown on 75/85 and be at the Dome in 30 minutes or less. It's only about 15 miles. Also Cobb Galleria mall area has some good upscale restaurants now (near 75/285). Vinings has several good places, too, along with downtown Smyrna area + decent shopping spots.

Here are some links to accomodations in the Smyrna/Vinings area for 8/29 - 8/31:

here is my post from the Klempsun thread from earlier:

its going to be tough to find a decent room close by, Dragon*con is the same weekend and it has tuned into one of the largest comic/sci-fi conventions in the country in the last few years. Expect to see lots and lots "interesting" people that don't appear to spend much time outdoors

Best bet would be to look around the various Marta stops on the north side of the line, I would look at hotels near Perimeter Mall and the "Medical Center" Marta station. Find one with a shuttle (there are a ton of business hotels around medical center that may have great weekend rates - look for hotels in Sandy Spring, Dunwoody area) that will take you to and from the Marta station. That way you can do without a car. Take Marta to and from the airport and the game. Not too much nightlife in the area though.

Perimeter is a good area. Got a suite at a Hilton through Priceline for only $48.00 a night about 2 months ago. It was within 1 mile from the Marta station.

You don't want to stay anywhere between the airport and the GA Dome. And if you stay around the airport, I would not recommend the MARTA ride back down there after the game.

Ditto that. Not a great area. The airport hotels are OK but don't walk around outside of them at night. I don't think however that Marta would be a big deal as the crowd leaving the game will fill the trains up to where they are relatively safe.
