How many great Bama players can you remember that had their careers end early because of some injury or another? Unless Zeke Knight has a miraculous recovery, he could be the latest. What are some of the others? Ray Hudson comes to mind for me.

I don't think I'd put Ray Hudson on the list. Yes his senior season was cut short, but he still played three and one-half years for Alabama, not to mention a redshirt year. He ended up with a situation very similar to what we saw with Ahmad Galloway.

Just a few I would go with:

Tyrone Prothro
Marvin Constant
Chris Lett
Antonio Carter
Donnie Lowe
Pierre Goode

Tyrone Prothro

Dadgum ... Pro's situation was not only sad, it was heart-breaking. It sucked all the joy out of that monumental win over Florida ... and dealt the whole Tide program a huge setback.

Pro had a chance to become the best ever to play at Bama.

In the every-cloud-has-a-silver-lining department ... and this intersects with the "what if" thread ... if Pro had stayed healthy, I doubt we'd have Coach Saban today.

All of the listed above and I'll add Kerry Goode.

I was just reading about Goode the other day ... and his situation was a bit different than the others we have mentioned.

He was never the same after his injury, and so he does fit on this list. But after sitting out the rest of that sophomore year, he did end up playing his junior and senior season at Bama and spent some years in the NFL.

At least I think that's the case. Someone wiser feel free to correct me.

.....Albert Means..... :eek2::eek2:
for almost getting us the death penalty he could have at least shown up fit enough to play one down.

I would say Prothro. Sad, sad, should have not even have been in that situation. If I recall, Bama had a comfortable lead. I won't say anymore because the events leading to his injuryjust angers me.

There's no doubt that losing TP was a huge setback, but even a healthy Prothro would not have been enough to save Shula's job. There was just too much incompetence and cluelessness there for one player to overcome.

Yes, what happen to Prothro was the worst case of luck I have ever seen. It breaks my heart when I see that one played that ended the career of such a talented player. That being said when WE all saw that ball go up in the air for a chance to score again everyone was cheering very loudly. In the situation we were in and all that those players had been through because of the NCAA I believe that they all wanted to be out there and score again. I am not one for running up the score but, if it were me there would be no way in hell that I would be coming out of that game. Those players had been dealt a rough hand by none of their own doing and stuck with Alabama when they could have left for another school. So they deserved to be out there and play out that game. Injuries are a part of football and anyone that has ever played knows that. If I remember correctly Brodie hurt his knee running out of bounds and wasn't even touched so it can happen at any time. Prothro's injury get blown out of the water just because of the timing of the game and the score. Flame away I know its coming.

yea i remember galloway on the sidelines in tears. prothro was definitely a sad moment. i was at the game and saw the gator fans doing their "chomp" when prothro got hurt. there were birds flying everywhere. was that not the loudest game ever at BDS? Prothro put so much excitement in that game. sad it all ended that day too.

Darrell Blackburn was a '96 pre-season ALL SEC pick (had 10 sacks in '95) but kidney disease caused him to miss his senior year.

One that stands out in my mind is Gary Rutledge. He seperated his shoulder before the 1974 season opener against Maryland and never really played in 1974, his senior year.

Jack O'rear is another one that had his career cut short because of injury.

That was sad to see .

I'll go with DT Elverette Brown . He had been a quality reserve who was a big part of our DL rotation . Chronic ankle problems cut his time short just when he was to become a starter back in '93 or '94 . Brown had All-SEC talent .

I say to this day that Kerry Goode would have won the Heisman trophy if he had never been hurt. One of the best I've ever seen at RB.

Siran Stacy. He was good when he came back, but he wasn't close to his '89 form. Before the injury he was one of the prettiest runners I've ever seen.
