The last time he was in town I believe he went to Archibald's. Personally, I would like for him to get into town on Friday and go stand in line and have lunch at City Cafe in downtown Northport, but that's just because it was one of my favorite lunch places while in college.

Buffalo Phil's has some pretty great wings. My personal favorite on the menu, though, is the fingers-of-fire platter.

Re: "Todd's Toast of the Town"

I was thinking last time he just grubbed from tailgate spots...
Yeah he did...that was for the UGA game. He was there the week earlier and went to Archibald's. I think he chose to go the tailgating route since he had just been in Tuscaloosa the week before.

Dreamland would be a good one...but I have a feeling he has been there before...maybe in 2006? City Cafe would be great but man I would hate to be there while they were taping it because it's already hard enough to get in.

Re: "Todd's Toast of the Town"

Isn't it "Taste" of the Town?

Either way, he'll probably go to Dreamland or the Waysider this time. He went to Archibald's earlier this year.

I usually think most of the places he goes to actually don't look that good, but I will say the steak place he went to in Knoxville looked pretty dang good to me. Anyone ever been there before?

When did he go to Archibald's this year? State is the first game in Tuscaloosa for ESPN this year.

City Cafe holds great memories from my days at the Capstone, but aside from being cheap and plentiful, I don't remember the food as anything special.

oh, but City Cafe has some GREAT food. That's where I went when I wanted some home-style cooking.

I believe I'm thinking of last year. On second thought, it seems like he went to it at the Arkansas game last year, and then did the tailgate deal the following week for Georgia.

I agree with you. I ate there a lot at one time, but the food really isn't all that great. It's pretty good, mind you, but it is definitely a value restaurant. It's a lot of pretty good food for cheap... but that doesn't mean they really have great food, per se.

Don't they usually try to find a place that's unique to the city? Although Buffalo Phil's is good, it's a chain so it probably wouldn't work.

Since Archibald's was last year, how could they not go to Dreamland this year?

City Cafe is good though. I do miss both of those places.

Re: "Todd's Toast of the Town"

I agree with the posters who say the food isn't great at City Cafe and that is a value place. It was pretty good for a great price, but it seems as if they are about to out price themselves IMO. It still isn't pricey by any means, and it is good for "home cooking"; but the value just wasn't as good as usual the last time I was there.

Note: I grew up eating there so I have seen a gradual decline in the value over the years.

Re: "Todd's Taste of the Town"

Man, when I was in school (late 80's), City Cafe was the deal!! I must've had lunch there at least 2-3 times/week. I remember the food as being very good, but things do change.

We also used to eat at a place called Mama Jewel's. I don't believe it's still open, but it was a meat & 3 place too. It was a touch more expensive than City Cafe, but I thought the food was excellent.

Man, those were the days.....

FWIW, my recommendations for "local" flavor:

Thomas Rib Shack on 15th Street (west). Their ribs make Dreamlands seem like beef jerky.

The Oasis in Cottondale. Best greasy cheesburgers in town (and ice cold beer
