Lane Kiffin to be announced Mon after UK game???

Duh! We already know that. But he won't be announced first. The new head coach Bill Cowher will be announced first and then Kiffen will be named offensive coordinator.

Kiffen worked his way up - Shula had a built in audience becuase of his name.
Kiffen is a pretty legit hire. No comparison to the Shula hire.
I hope it is Gruden tho. Just because I have been tabbing him as the next Tenn coach for about two years - since Saban was hired at Bama.
I would rather see Kiffin turn into the UT version of DuBose and go through 10-12 years of what we did.
Kiffin would ratchet up the recruiting competition in the TN/KY/SC area (though Fulmer was no slouch). Other than that, Kiffin to TN doesn't worry me. There's no evidence so far that Kiffin is a great coach.
The guy I'd like to keep out of the SEC is Brian Kelly. That guy has won big everywhere he has gone. There's a real possibility he would prove to be over his head in the SEC. But he might also prove to be the football version of Bruce Pearl. I'd rather see him go to Washington or somewhere.

FWIW, Looks like Lane Kiffin as HC with Monte Kiffin DC and Coach O as DL coach and recruiting coordinator.

I'm hearing Kiffin, and hearing that he'll bring Ed the Ogre with him. That's actually not a bad idea as long as you keep Ed away from a microphone. He's a helluva recruiter.
While you are correct that Kiffen has HC experience he has not been successful at it! Kiffien has college experience but he was in a system at USC with a co-offensive coordinator and frankly he's not proven to be very adept at it. Kiffin worked his way up THANKS TO HIS FATHER TOO! If you think that Lane Kiffin has gotten to where he is because he's just a good coach I would argue that point. His dad got him his breaks just at Shula's dad did!
Frankly I would love UcheaT to hire Kiffin! He isn't anything that is going to either be bothersome froma recruiting standpoint or a coaching standpoint. I just don't think he's a "proven" head coach and "IF" UcheaT hires him it will be a huge mistake in my book...but hey...I say hire him! A school like UcheaT "SHOULD" be looking at proven head coaches and not head coaching failures...but again, I say hire him!
It's pretty easy to recruit when you're part of a program that is one of the most successful this decade, and in a recruiting area that is has very little peers anywhere in the country.

I don't agree with all your logic.
Kiffen has head coaching experience, but anybody with any football knowledge at all was scratching their heads over why the Raiders hired him. Kiffen had a hot name in the college game, yes, but to go from OC at U$C to head coach in the NFL, that was a stretch at best. Factor in Kiffen's age and it was an even more bizzare hire by the Raiders.
It's not like Kiffen has a great deal of head coaching experience either. He was with the Raiders for a cup of coffee and then he was gone. I think you have to consider that he worked for Al Davis meaning he had his hands tied behind his back and was very limited in what he could do as a head coach. Al Davis calls the shots in that organization. Kiffen wanted to fire his defensive coordinator and did not have the authority to do so. He did not want to draft Jamarcus Russell, but the Raiders still took him because Al Davis is the boss. Head coach? If that's what you want to call him. Sounds more like Al Davis' puppet to me.
Also, there is no doubt in my mind that Kiffen's father being Monty Kiffen opened doors for him. There is no doubt in my mind about that.
I think you have to consider the circumstances under which Shula was hired at Alabama. Mike Price was fired after only being on the job a few months. He never coached a game at Alabama. Price was fired in May of 2003 after spring practice and before the season started. Who could we have hired as a head coach in May? Throw in the problems with the NCAA and we were very limited in our coaching search at that time. UcheaT's circumstances are totally different than the set of circumstances Alabama was dealing with. My point is had our circumstances been different, there is no way Shula would have been hired at Alabama.
Mike Shula was a flop at Alabama, but to say that Lane Kiffen would be a legit hire at UcheaT, the book is out on that one.

If Kiffin is the hire, it's a risky choice ... could turn out great, could turn out awful ... most likely somewhere in between.
It definitely would NOT be a Saban-like slam dunk hire ... or anything close to it. Butch Davis would probably be the closest, if they could get him. Leach is too quirky, and OU took the shine off of him a little bit the other night. Gruden or Cowher of course would be a huge names (though unproven at the college level) ... but there has never been any evidence that either is interested at all.

But I'm not sure his hire has the "splash" they are looking for ... plus he's probably going to be playing in a BCS bowl, and they are feeling the pressure to get someone on board now, since the recruits are starting to scatter.

I just do not see Kiffin as a good hire at UT. He lacks the proper HC expierience, but if that is what they want I hope they get it. I will say one thing in his favor his wife is extremely HOT.
If you call one full year at Oakland exerience then I guess. I don't think he had much time to get any expeirence. Also Shula had several years expeirence going into his last year and that did not help him. Either you are a head coach or you are not and Kiffin is not. Very bad hire IMHO.

That was certainly the scuttlebutt before this Kiffin rumor began percolating.
I've already given my opinion that if they get Kelly they'll be getting a very fine football coach ... a much better choice than Kiffin in my book.
That's not to say Kelly to Tennessee would bother me too much. I'd be okay with it for several reasons:
(A) Kelly is not a proven big-time recruiter.
(B) There's at least a reasonable chance he would prove to be over his head at the SEC level. (Although as I noted before, he could also prove to be a football Bruce Pearl.)
(C) I don't want Butch Davis at Tennessee.
(D) I don't want Brian Kelly at Auburn.
