Unofficial Auburn contact made with camp of Texas Tech's Mike Leach, source says

An unofficial Auburn representative has reached out to people close to Arkansas' Bobby Petrino and Texas Tech's Mike Leach to gauge their interest in succeeding Tommy Tuberville if the school decides to fire him, a source familiar with the contacts told The Birmingham News.

Those contacts took place before talks between Tuberville and Auburn officials about the coach's future resumed today.

Three sources close to the Leach camp said the Texas Tech coach would consider Auburn if the job were open.

Whenever the AD and Head Coach have meetings for multiple days that are many hours, it is typically not a sign that they are trying bring the guy back. I think mostly, the discussions are, "Look, we know this hasn't worked out, but we both want to go out on good terms. How can we accomplish this?"

This makes the fourth Alabama opponent in 2008 to fire their head coach. Amazing.

The rumor mill is going wild about a possible replacement. Petrino and Leach keep coming up. But, Petrino has a contract at Arkansas that prevents him from coaching at another SEC West School. Leach is interviewing at Washington, so that looks unlikely.

A good possibility is Jim Bo Fisher at Fl State. He might be a good fit.

leave texas tech to come to the barn???? ROFLMAO!!!!!!! he only has to compete with 2 teams in the big 12, if he comes to the SEC he has to face 6 teams....I bet they have to get a DC or OC from somewhere to fill the job
