Re: Recruiting Cleanup

Yeah give me Atchison and Robinson and they can have the rest...
I don't know. Atchison is a solid player, but with the quality of recruits considering Bama right now and the limited, I would rather pass on Atchison at this point in time and see what happens during the official visit weekends in early January.

Re: Recruiting Cleanup

As I said earlier, the only one that will likely get a firm offer from Alabama is Montez Robinson. Atchison did not have a firm offer before, IMO, and I do not expect him to get one now.

Being brutally honest, though, the firing of Tuberville really isn't going to have a huge impact on the bulk of their recruiting class one way or the other. The harsh truth of the matter for them is that they were recruiting so terribly that no major program wants any of the majority of their commitments in the first place, so they certainly aren't going to want them a second time around.

However, Auburn is going to lose a few guys because of this, and it could have the impact of turning a bad class into a very bad class. Just a few thoughts on who could / will go:

  • Montez Robinson is the first and foremost player, though I have a feeling that he just might be one of those guys who bleed orange and blue regardless.

  • Rodney Scott was likely South Florida bound anyway, and this will only further cement that.

  • All of these re-signees that were academic casualties from previous classes, guys like Eltoro Freeman, Onterrio McCalebb, Nick Fairley, etc. may very well look at other places now that the coach they originally signed with has been given the axe.
All in all, that's about it. All of these other guys with offers from East Popcorn State, they aren't going anywhere. This might drop Auburn's class from the low teens to the low twenties or perhaps even into the thirties, but frankly, as I said earlier, it was going to be a crappy class anyway, and now it is only going to be a bit crappier class.

It's really a no-win situation for Aubie. When it rains, it pours.

2010 WR / ATH B.J. Chitty De-Commits From Auburn

B.J. Chitty is one of the top prospects of the 2010 recruiting class, and he had previously committed to Auburn in September. However, he had started to open things up a bit as of late, and was in particular looking really hard at Alabama. With the news of Tommy Tuberville's firing, Chitty has officially de-committed from Auburn.

As said earlier, he was looking pretty hard at Alabama anyway, and he actually visited for the Iron Bowl, where he was extremely impressed. He was quoted as saying that it's looking "real good" with Alabama, and quite frankly I think with Tuberville gone we now get this young man (and honestly we may have gotten him before). You never know what can happen in the recruiting game, but it certainly seems like he is leaning in the Tide's favor.

Either way, Chitty is going to be a huge recruit. He's got pretty good size at 6'2 and 185, and he's an incredible athlete. He's already gotten offers from Alabama, Auburn, and Nebraska, and programs like Michigan and Florida are going pretty hard after him as well. All in all, it's a great development for the Tide. We really want to have this kid in crimson, he could be one of the key components of the 2010 class.

Re: Recruiting Cleanup

As mentioned in another thread I just started, perhaps the biggest impact of Tuberville's firing is the 2010 prospect B.J. Chitty.

He committed to Auburn early, then reconsidered Alabama, and now with Tubby getting the axe he has officially de-committed from Auburn, and it seems like we are sitting pretty.

Re: Recruiting Cleanup

To flip the scenario ... is there any chance that a particular new hire at Auburn could affect our class?

I can't think of any possibilities of that ... unless maybe a Muschamp hire could affect 'Dre Kirkpatrick.

Re: Montez Robinson....

Andrew Bone just said Purdue is out and it is between Bama and UGA. This was kinda a no brainer though. Robinson visited UGA last week and had a great time. Says it is a toss-up. RTR

Re: Montez Robinson....

I like our chances. This is a position of need for us and Robinson would be a great addition to the 2009 recruiting class.
