Our defensive secondary is better than people think

:BigA: Maybe next year our QB will not need all day to find a receiver. The other team seems to get it out quick. Last night our weakness in the secondary was obvious. They could not tackle. They did not seem to know to turn around and look for the ball. I do not believe all of this was how they were coached. They looked like they were out all night at a party, and by the time they realized they were getting beat, They were beat!

Here we go again. A thread about the secondary and you attack our QB. Get over it, he was the best we had move on. I don't see you out there playing so leave it alone.

Lack of any kind of pass rush, WRs who have more speed than our DBs and poor tackling led to disaster against UF and Utah. We did a great job of covering AU and UT's WRs because they weren't any good and both teams had terrible QBs. IMO the last 2 games proves we need help in the secondary.

Uh? Why are you quoting GrayTide? You need to re-read what GrayTide wrote. You are both saying similar things. GrayTide did not imply the Utah QB was bad.

Most have given Utah props, and few are making excuses for our loss. We accept a loss, as the game was decided on the field. But the team that Utah faced was very different from the team that we put on the field the rest of the season. Heck, Tulane gave us all we could handle without Andre Smith, sacking JPW 4 times. Tulane.

You really should improve your reading comprehension before coming to another team's board to try and talk trash.

That said, I would agree that Bama is not as good as some thought we were. I think Utah is very good, but not as good as you probably think they are. It was a huge win for your program. You should try to enjoy it with the same class that your fellow Ute fans have exhibited on this board.

After reading through all of the post on this topic a couple things come to mind..

1st- We have one of the best DB coaches in the country (Saban).. Stop complaining about our DB's needing more coaching on their technique. They get coached as well as any in the country.. You have to apply what you learn for it to work. We will continue to recruit tall corners for the future and Saban will teach them tech...

2nd- Javey is developing into a good corner.. Not great corner.. Don't forget he only has one year of playing time under his belt.. He is still learning. His speed can only help him so much and much of the time he is at the "Star" and not on the corner.

3rd- KJ is as good as we have in a lock-down corner.. However, with the size of today's WR he is overmatched most of the time when facing a very good Offensive team. For the most part he plays the best tech. but does not have the size to overcome any mistakes.

Finally, I don't care if you have Charles Woodson, Antoine Winfield or the great Deon Sanders at CB. If you don't have a solid pass rush, a good QB will pick you apart. Look at 1992.. We had good corners but we had two guys on both sides of the line that could rush a passer that made them look like great corners most of the time. The Pass Rush is the key..Pressure the QB and your CB's will look like All Stars...

I'm sorry but your talking about 2 guys who had long careers in the Big Boy league. They were great players in their own right, but the DL in 1992 made their jobs a lot easier at the Capstone.
