I don't understand what you are referring to regarding politics. I think Nike management are betting on Russell being the starter at some point in his career and think he will be a popular player for marketing their product. I doubt Nike has influence on the Bama coaching staff in this matter.

I don't think there is a deadline. If a coach is not hired within 30 days after the prior coach's departure, the portal will open for 15 days for the players.

There has been some level of a strength and conditioning program underway since DeBoer arrived. I don't see it taking a couple of years before meaningful improvement takes place if a major change is made to the program. It is not like starting from scratch.
