    New topic for shared reading!!!

My library didn't have it, but I was able to order it on inter-library loan. I just finished Caine Mutiny and will also finish 'mere' Christianity by CS Lewis just in time to start Panther.

    New topic for shared reading!!!

I might join in as well. I've been intending to read a bio of Tecumesh, Geronimo, and (gone blank on name) for quite a while and haven't gotten around to it. This'll give me an excuse.

Manson to announce on signing day!

Seems to me he likes attention a bit too much. Hey everybody, look at me. That's how he comes across anyway.

Did you hear them say his girlfriend is a playmate and she comes to practice sometimes. I kept thinking, "This guys dating a playmate?"

Anyone get any books for Christmas?

I have read 2 of Follet's WWII books and enjoyed them both. The two I read were "Key to Rebecca" and "Eye of the Needle". I have also read "Pillars of the Earth" which was good and "A Place called Freedom" which was ok. For Christmas I got: 'mere' Christianity by CS Lewis. I'm only about 50...

The Big Sky - AB Guthrie Jr

I really enjoyed this book. It really reminded me of Lonesome Dove. You have the two strong leaders, one is hurt in the wilderness, the other tries to do what he can. I won't say the outcome however. Many, many other simularites that were mentioned in the Master and Commander thread.

    Master and Commander

I have read the first of the Guthrie series and am working on the second. So far I like it about as much as Lonesome Dove. The books were written in the 30's and 40's. Guthrie lived in Montana. Some of the old timers from the cattle days would have possibly still been around. All 3 have...

    Master and Commander

bobstod, Have you read the 3 book series by AB Guthrie about the West. The subject writing reminds me of Lonesome Dove. The three books are "The Big Sky", "The Way West", and "These Thousand Hills". The director of Master and Commander read all 20 books 4 times. Pretty impressive.

The Big Sky - AB Guthrie Jr

Has anyone read this book. I'm about 100 pages in and so far it stikes me as a predessesor of Lonesome Dove. This winds up being a trilogy of: "The Big Sky" - Kentuckian leaves home and heads west to become a mountain man - 1830's "The Way West" - One of the characters from the first book is...

Anyone interested in Church history? I'm reading "The Templars" by Piers Paul Read.

That sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out. Have you ever read "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. It's a historical fiction taking place in the Middle Ages. It has a good bit of info on monasticism, which I found interesting.

Anyone read Confederates in the Attic

I should be starting a new book in a few weeks when I finish what I'm working on now. I have had this one recommended. Anyone read it?

The Tuscaloosa man mentioned in the book is Bert Bank. I think he used to do radio for Bama games?

...calling BamaCLM and all other readers of fantasy...

My wife and I read to our 10 month old and 2 1/2 year old each night. It's lots of fun. My little boy will go grab the drawer handle where we keep his books saying "book mommieee, book daddieee" if he thinks we're not going to read on a given night.

I might check them out. I'll have to see what the birthday stash brings. I usually get lots of books for my birthday. I have big 31 coming up on the 23rd. If I don't read it then, I may check into them when the dozen or so new ones have been whittled down.
