News Article: WSJ: The Bill Belichick Nightmare Just Keeps Getting Worse [Mac Jones-related]

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

He needs to be your franchise qb, not Purdy. Purdy gets hurt alot and his stats when the star players arent playing is bad. Where as Mac beat the Rams with ALL his best te and wr's sitting out that game. Mac can win with decent receivers, where as Purdy needs stars.
I agree but I thought I heard the announcers say Purdy just signed a huge multi-year contract.

It's amazing to me how a team will use a high pick on a QB, expect him to be the guy, but then not surround him with a good OL or WRs or even a complementary running game. Mac was getting battered and Bryce still is. I find it to be a bold strategy that doesn't work out for them.

or hire a DC to be your OC and a ST to be your QB coach.

All of the $$$$$ to get the player and nothing left for support...

Here is a list of all the QB's drafted in the 1st round since 1999. I have to admit, a lot of these guys I can't remember.

Cleveland, Chicago and Washington lead the list with 5 first round QB's during this period. None of which have made much noise in the post season this century.

With the UNC cornerbacks coach now under suspension while the university and the ncaa investigate possible recruiting violations (providing impermissible benefits to a recruit’s family), CBB hot seat just got warmer.

I guess is the UNC administration will look for a way to fire him for “cause” because of this and try to save the buyout, because one way or another, CBB is done at UNC.

How on earth does one commit recruiting violations in an age where it is permissible to pay players an unlimited amount of money?

I guess the key is “paying players”, not the family members of a recruit. Additionally, this is most likely a “mole hill” that the UNC PTB wants to become “mountain” in order to not be on the hook for his $20 million buyout.

Belichick also has a $1 million personal buyout where he can “buy himself out of his contract” if another job (most are speculating a media role of some kind). Reports now are he is discussing with administration about exercising this “out”. I’m sure it would be under the stipulation his son is retained on staff in some capacity.

Yeah, FBomb reported today on ESPN that as bad as things were on the field he's being told it's worse off the field and the UNC brass are quickly coming to the conclusion this was a mistake.

Rest of the chain pulled from a Reddit post (since I don’t have an X account):

Members of Belichick’s coaching staff have already spoken to other schools that are expected to be in CFB Playoff about taking on roles during the postseason. From one coach: “the rats are leaving the ship”.

Some staffers believe a change will come within two weeks.

Reports of serious recruiting violations remain under investigation at UNC. Recruiting and practice violations have already been proven by the school, according to multiple sources.

Using recruit violations to knockdown a coaches buyout has become a standard practice. If Belichick cannot find a landing spot to trigger his own buyout, he’s excepted to accept a greatly reduced, compromised rate.

Belichick's communication with his staff in the past two weeks has been described as "weird" and "distant" by multiple members of UNC's coaching staff. Multiple coaches were unable to get hold of him during UNC's bye week.

From one UNC defensive assistant: "What we've done to these kids is ****ed up.”

What a disaster. That documentary would have been so amazing. There’s probably video evidence of some of these violations which would explain why UNC pulled the plug. They probably want Hulu to burn the tapes.

The last few years of CNS and Belichick should be a cautionary tale to any coach about staying too long. Saban almost did, but got out and is a hero for the rest of his life. Belichick stayed too long at New England and is desperately trying to hold on now, with a tarnished legacy. He went from the GOAT to a goat in a heartbeat.
And the optics of CBB's love life aren't helping the way he "looks" in the eyes of public either. It was bad enough after Brady left that it was obvious he was the real glue to NE's success. Then he made the weird decision to left a DC call plays in Mac's second year. Now, this parade in Carolina is just embarrassing all the way around.

if you are like me, and hope they run CBB out of town, hit me with a like!!!!

As pointed systems do play a major role in some quarterbacks and other players performance. Three Super Bowl winning quarterbacks that benefitted from the coach's system were Star, Montana and Hurts. Jones looks similar to Montana in the right system.

I think about AJM and wish he could have landed in a NFL organization that fit him.

Would AJ have worked in a system like SF's now?

My question has always been…”what if Cowher took Brady over Tee Martin?” Would anyone ever think Belichick was a top 10 head coach? Both Tee and Brady were late throwaway quarterback picks but Belichick has gotten a ridiculous amount of credit for “seeing the potential” of a 199th pick. I have always thought this point was ridiculous considering that no one that New England drafted that year except Brady was on a NFL roster in the next 3 years, and the fact that Belichick is notorious for being a horrible drafter.

Brady was the steal of a lifetime in that he possessed a chip on his shoulder and the constant refusal to be satisfied with the high highs. He did that for 2 decades. People came to play with Brady for far lesser contracts and Brady took pay cuts constantly to see it happen. Belichick basically had the best job an above average defensive guy had in the NFL in that he had a ridiculous amount of money to spend on defensive reinforcements and a highly stable starting quarterback.

Anyone thinking UNC was going to be a success didn’t watch his non Brady years nor did they watch how many NFL teams passed on him. It was a marketing gimmick that is far more money than it’s worth. I couldn’t be happier for it to happen to a guy that tried to ruin Mac Jones’s career and was too stupid to see his golden goose was the difference between him being the goat and being Rex Ryan at best
