Government Shutdown

FWIW, none of the Dems who voted to pass the CR are running in 2026.
This is brought up in the video I posted. She uses it as evidence that this was not a surprise to Democrats, was not a small group that broke with the party, as some are making it seem in the media. It is too much of a coincidence that all the ones who had a change of heart have nothing on the line next year. This was negotiated by party leaders, and then they found the ones who could "fall on the sword".

Isn't it amazing?

Years of "I don't understand why Republicans don't stand up to Trump, the only ones that do are the ones who are retiring like Bob Corker and Jeff Flake"......and then it turns out things are no different on the Democratic side.

Always amazing how many people will stand up to their own party when it's safe as opposed to say Sinema or Fetterman or Liz Cheney or even John McCain (on Obamacare). But then you look at the first three of those and you know exactly why nobody is courageous.

We SAY we want courage - but we only want it from "the other team" at a given time. The courageous politician is more often than not the soon to be unemployed politician.

MAGA owes its success to two things:

1. A populist president who is part real estate mogul and part carnival barker.

2. The sheer awfulness of the Democrats

Polls can be debated back and forth all day regarding number 1, but number 2 should give a clear indication of how to speed up the shelf-life of the movement, but instead, lets shut down the government and hurt the dependency demographic. BRILLIANT! If Democrats as a whole could stop doing, you know, stupid stuff long enough to shift public sentiment, there would be less risk of going against the GOP grain for House members and senators.

The reality is, it's not about standing up to Trump; it's about standing up to the source of his power and that, of course, is his supporters. Offer them something better and watch what happens. Sure, the hard-liners aren't going anywhere, but the middle-leaners can be swayed. Imagine what could happen if Dems could actually find appeal with the disenfranchised non-voters out there (nearly half the country.) This will require a better strategy than calling everyone who disagrees with you a racist while promising all the free stuff. They need to put some actual thought into this (which is a tall ask, I'll grant you.)
