Possibly but no way to know now. Brailsford was a good player and maybe great had he had better players around him but he couldn’t move anyone out the way. Couldn’t run inside partly cause of him. Really happy he came and was a bama guy though. Again probably less effective just because others were terrible and think coaching was absolutely horrid on o line.

In my opinion which means nothing, Bama should not spend anything on Coleman when they need to spend heavily on both lines and other spots to be competitive again. Spending a ton on Williams now unless it’s out of his bag let’s fix the foundation first. It would be like drafting a QB first with no o line.
We NEED both of those OL !!
Both guys are from GA so maybe a good fit wrt to Culture and both were Top 5-10 in the State and 4 Star HS recruits

Agreed Coach D. Coleman would be icing on a cake but the cake needs a better batter at this point. Between Brooks, Horton, Morgan, and Williams we have a solid starting 4. I expect us to take 2-3 more but dropping major NIL funds on WR may not be the smartest move. We shore up the OL and DL/LB positions and this team has potential to be back in the mix come next season.

I hate that this is what college football has become. I can't even remotely keep up with the team/roster.
"Diego, can we go over to your house?"

If he doesn't gain weight and/or get alot stronger, this is going to get him in and OUT of the NFL pretty quickly. For his size and strength he did AN EXCELLENT JOB at center. But the problem was he couldn't move anybody and the best he could do was keep them where they started, which was right on the LOS.
But, as we've discussed, our entire OL and DL need to get physically stronger and more powerful. Hopefully our coaching staff watches film and this has jumped off the screen.
I think we start seeing more stuff like this in high schools now that NIL is raising its ugly head at thar level as well.
Locally, Coach Greg Patterson at Hueytown HIgh stepped down yesterday. He had coached there 10 years with the last seven as head coach. When asked where he was going, he replied (paraphrasing) “he didn’t know. He could be coaching. He could be teaching somewhere. He could be installing chain link fence. He just knew he wasn’t happy with the direction of high school athletics currently and needed to step away”.
Purely conjecture on my part based on this statement, but it makes me wonder if he’s now having to deal with programs using NIL to poach players? We know there were programs in high schools prior to NIL that “nudged” (wink) parents to move into their districts so their kid could play in the program. Now it is much more blatant with NIL.
I think we start seeing in football what's been happening in college baseball. The big D-1 schools are giving less and less scholarships to HS kids and giving more and more to transfers. More roster spots are being taken up by transfers than HS recruits. It sucks for the HS recruit because a lot of times it forces them to go to smaller schools with less quality scholarship offers, but it is what it is. I know football has more roster numbers, so they cannot completely abandon HS recruiting but I think teams like Indiana have provided a blue print for the future. Alabama is going to (IMO) have to start moving in this direction. Having the mindset of bringing in a HS recruit and developing him for two years is not realistic. That player won't be around that long because he's not going to sit that long. So all we'll be doing is coaching them up for some other team to benefit from.
At the risk of getting kicked to the “politics” forum I will say that the new Alabama school choice bill and the fight with ASHAA to keep them from enforcing the 1 year sit out rule for transfers will exacerbate this situation. Not offering an opinion on school choice one way or the other, just pointing out that it is rife for abuse in NIL and high school athletics.
There is really nothing totally new here though. I grew up in Odessa Texas and went to Permian. We had good football players whose parents moved to Odessa in the 8th or 9th grade and got really good jobs with oilfield support companies owned by Permian boosters. Never thought anything about it as a kid, but if they had moved when they were already in high school they would have had to sit out for a year.
He was more so discussing the rampant recruiting that is going on at the HS level. Colleges have been placing players for years as well but it is a small percentage compared to the other issue. Thompson has received a few athletes over the last few years but I will leave it at that.
