BREAKING Ty Declaring for NFL Draft

Pittsburgh is a place that has been snake bitten by not being low enough to select a franchise quarterback. Pickett was basically forced on them by the fans, but pretty much every quarterback on roster was a guy that they never really thought would be the guy.

So Ty going there has alot of upside

Any word on is A-A- Ron is returning?

He will probably hold everyone hostage until June and then think about it until OTAs.

I think it really depends on his mood and whether Pittsburgh has a coach that he likes and another receiver. Rodgers isn’t like Brady in which there is a pragmatic timetable in making these decisions. He likes to drag it out. He is a weird guy but honestly he is the best quarterback we have had in 15 years.

But right now I would say unless he had a better chance somewhere else then it’s 50-50 that he makes a return to Pittsburgh.

Broken ribs, very painful, still wanted to play.... praiseworthy attitude, so typical of Ty.
Adieu and hope you thrive in the NFL

I have nothing but admiration, respect and appreciation for Ty and am amazed by what he was able to do despite no running game and poor pass protection. When he was 100% he was about as good as any QB we’ve had.

I do think he was done a disservice by leaving him on the field when he was clearly injured. I was worried that it would damage his draft stock if the pros thought he had regressed without knowing the reason. But hopefully he will still do very well.

I wonder how well Mendoza would have done behind our OL and how Ty might have looked at IU.

Just because I'm still a touch bitter, I hope Ty's contract DWARFS that of a certain JM Bama QB.

It would probably be about 3-4 x’s more.

That was a 3rd Rd contract for $6.26 Mil Tot

I looked at last years Top 15 1st Rd contracts and also compared it with Dart’s contract at the 25th pick.

Ty would probably get about an $18-21 Mil contract at least.

If a team really wanted him and he goes in the Top 10 it could go up to $27 Mil

Just heard Rick Neuheisel say on the radio that he had heard on good authority that Bama encouraged Ty to move on. Not sure how much Rick knows.

I wonder if this is another deal similar to what Ewers said was the deciding factor on his entry to the draft vs going into the portal. If so, more kudos to Ty for wanting to be remembered as a “Bama man"

You want me to tell you why I don't believe that? Because neither QB behind him was even close to being where Ty was in his development. To "encourage" the most developed QB you have to "move on" and hope that the two behind him develop enough to just get to the place Ty was, is idiotic. If the staff did that they are morons. They have ZERO idea if Mack or Russell is going to develop enough over the offseason to even be as good as Ty was this season. I'm hoping this story isn't true.

We know he had big money opportunities in the portal! He must have gotten some very positive feedback to have him go into the draft instead. I do tend to believe that the Alabama staff has some very big challenges ahead without starting over at QB!

I have no idea/info.

However, I can imagine a conversation/discussion about the pros/cons of Ty staying and playing another year vs. going to the draft. FWIW.

Pros:
- A healthy Ty is very good (that's why he must have received a good draft grade)
- Another year of Ty would offer a solid vision of what our offense would look like with him playing healthy.
- You know his ceiling when he's on/healthy.
- Great leader!

Cons:
- You only have 1 year with him IF he stays healthy and the OL/RB concerns improve.
- He's injury/fumble-prone
- He's decent but not dynamic in scramble mode - needs to throw in a protected pocket with proper footwork - basically, isn't very accurate on the run.
- You know his ceiling
- No matter how good/healthy he is/stays next year, he's gone and you start over.

With the total rebuild next year; I think the staff knows a new QB (with multiple years of eligibility) is more attractive than one more year of the ceiling you know you get with Ty.

To quote a football friend: Ty's ceiling may be Russell's basement when he finally gets the snaps/experience to be the starter.

What will happen: Without a crystal ball, I think if Russell and Mack are "close" in the spring; CKD will name Russell the starter going into the fall and Mack will transfer. It wouldn't even shock me if Mack doesn't transfer before the spring in this window.

Russell is the most highly rated QB Bama has ever signed. He's the future.

It sounds like clickbait... Ty has his quirks, but you never tell an overall experienced guy like that you don't want him back.

Yeah, this sounds more like some of the posters on here that are convinced Ty is terrible and the 3rd string guy is the best QB ever. I am not buying it as a true story. Rick Neuheisel is an idiot.

It's not that simple, IMO.

This will be debated a plenty between now and next spring.

But it's not as simple as who was #2 in relief in a blowout game to end the season.

Pecking order matters until it doesn't. And I'm not saying it won't be Mack (if he stays), but there may be a lot of reasons Russell will be our QB next fall, even with some growing lumps and bumps.
Yeah, its an open competition when Spring Practice rolls around...
