Trump policies X

Calling taxes “someone else’s money” treats them like theft instead of what they are: the cost of living in a society. Governments already collect taxes for police, fire departments, courts, roads, and the military. Those aren’t labeled “socialism,” but feeding children and treating the sick somehow is.

Talarico’s point is simple. Many Christians want a government strong enough to enforce their moral rules, but suddenly weak when it comes to caring for the poor, the sick, and the vulnerable, which is central to Jesus’ teachings. That’s not a false equivalency. It’s a contradiction.
“taxes are theft” has long been a signal of virtue

Trying to equate Jesus with a statist politician is a joke, and a bad one. Taxes at the federal level are to be used for activities that are constitutionally justified. Most of what has been done at the federal level for a long time does not square up the the Constitution. If the left really cared about children (or whoever/whatever), they wouldn't constantly call for more expensive, failed government programs to "fix" the problems.

US Constitution ≠ Teachings of Jesus

Or that one of the major issues is not those who choose not to work, but those work hard day in and day out and simply aren't paid a living wage or benefits.

The biggest problem is that able-bodied adults underachieve. They live beyond their means. They don't give themselves a skill set of much value. Want more money? Go earn it. Stop expecting to mooch off productive people. People who use "living wage" arguments are dishonest, because they always want more and more of someone else's money.

Right. So, why do you conflate charity with government programs?
I think feeding the hungry and helping the needy is a function of the government. I know we disagree about the Constitution and I have great respect for the good works you and your family do for others. If enough people were as generous as you and we could rely on the largesse of the population to take care of our nation’s charitable needs, that would be great. We all know that’s not the case. The government is by no means an efficient way to help people, but for many of those who need it, it can be the difference between a good life or one of misery.

First, thank you for kind words about the work my wife and I do. Sincerely.

Regarding the proper role of government, very little should be done at the federal level. Welfare should be done at the state level, to whatever extent the citizens of that state want to do. Unfortunately, the government is terrible at such things. Most of what is supposed to be spent on the target audience is absorbed by the bureaucracy, siphoned off by NGOs (if applicable), misappropriated, etc. The Somali fraud is just one of innumerable programs that turn into grift. Whatever dimes are left of the dollars are effectively designed to encourage continually and increasingly bad behavior. Have more children; don’t get a job; stay stupid; stay dependent; etc. With a track record this retarded, why would anyone support it if helping someone were truly their goal? Sad fact is: the loudest people just want control of the money that is supposed to go to help others.

President Pig Crap isn't able to handle a dime himself, but flipping off a union guy had made that union guy a wealthy man.

The GoFundMe donations, totaling over $800,000 in less than 24 hours, come after the Ford line worker, TJ Sabula, told The Washington Post that he heckled Trump during the President's visit to his workplace.

Trump visited a Michigan plant on Tuesday where the automaker builds its best-selling F-150 full-size pickup truck. The brief visit was intended to highlight the White House's commitment to rebuilding the US workforce and Ford's focus on rebuilding a blue-collar workforce pipeline.

Dude backed into an awesome business plan. I wish I'd thought of that. I'd like to flip off almost every politician.

Painting with such a broad brush sounds great, but you know that’s not true.

Eh, broad brush counters broad bush. Can’t have a productive conversation with a group that screams, “Nazi/murderers/white supremacist/etc.” all the time. Seriously, there are many on here that do little more than that 24/7. During work hours, evenings, weekends, Bama games, Christmas, etc. It’s extremely childish and kind of a sad use of time.

Then the they need to get better at it. If they are going to spend the money they take from others by force then they need to be accountable for what happens to it. That's my biggest gripe. I'm not mad that there are programs to help people. I'm mad that our government is terrible at formulating the programs and terrible at stopping the abuse and fraud. SS and Medicare are going broke, and all of these assistance programs have large percentages of grift and abuse. These NGO's that are taking millions in government money are just a cash cow for the people running them in many cases. The ride has to stop. The problem is anyone trying to stop the ride is a terrible person, racist, or whatever phobe label you can throw at them to keep the money train rolling. The Republicans and Democrats should be ashamed and every one of them should be thrown out of office if not thrown in prison along with a lot of other people that have enabled and taken advantage of the system.

My daughter has a super rare genetic disorder. We got no help of any kind because my wife and I have the audacity to work for a living. We were in a large hospital with our daughter in the NICU and were told by a young doctor we were the only people in the NICU on private insurance. I told her you don't understand I pay for all of this. She looked me dead in the face and said me too. We applied to get help for her there was nothing for her because I had the audacity to have a job. I paid for therapy out of pocket after the visits the insurance would pay for ran out. I paid for expensive medicine. I did it all. You think anyone from the government helped me. HECK NO!!! They didn't care if my child lived or died because I had too much money in my paycheck. I had to cut to the bone to make ends meet back then, and I did it. She's older now and doing much better. My wife had to quit her job to take care of her when she was young and has been able to go back to work now that my daughter is older. The only help I got came from my church. They helped us out more than once and I will be eternally grateful and loyal to that church. So, don't talk to me about the government helping the needy they sure didn't help me when life crashed in on me and my family. If you are disabled in some way then I'm all for helping someone. If you have a short term hardship like a job loss or medical crisis I'm all for helping in the short term, if you are able bodied get up get a job or starve to death I don't really care which you pick.

Preach!!!!

My wife has been a nurse for over 25 years in some capacity. Most of it is in labor and delivery units. Most of her patients - across several states and a dozen hospitals - are on the dole. The taxpayer picks up the tab. $10,000. $20,000. Sometime more. Extrapolating nationwide, that's millions of people having kids for "free." That's billions of dollars that responsible people have to pay for the care of the underachievers.

And that's just one hospital unit. What about the dozen others? What about the “emergency” rooms, where the majority of people treat it like their primary doctor’s office and send the bill to the taxpayer? We are multi-level stupid with wasteful government programs in this country.

The government is terrible at efficiently and effectively doing most anything, but at least it’s making the effort when it comes to helping those who need it. What’s the alternative? There is a significant portion of our citizenry who is just fine with people suffering in a myriad of ways, especially if they’re perceived as different in some fashion. The “welfare queen” type of excuse also exists in multiple forms as a reason to deny aid to the needy.

We agree that the government is wasteful and vulnerable to fraud. So moving past that, what’s the solution? How do we minimize hunger, provide adequate housing, and ensure that everyone receives quality medical care? As proud Americans, those are goals we should strive for.

For short term there should be a safety net to help people when life crashes in. The disabled and elderly should have help, but able bodied people that refuse to work should get no assistance of any kind. If they are working and qualify for Medicaid then I could make an exception for that. Otherwise get up get a job and figure it out. That's what I had to do. I had to figure it out. You can say I'm harsh I don't care. Personal responsibility is a real thing. Grow up and deal with it.
