Reggie Ragland get into it with Nikhai Hill-Green on the Tide's mentality and coaching against Indiana

This may indeed be the mentality:
Ragland: "I felt like once they got up, guys just said, ... I'm cool. I'm gonna go get in my Benz and I'm gonna go home."

Talk about one side making the other quit.

This is a damning quote;
Hill-Green: "I will say this: because I've played in other conferences, I think there was a little bit of a sense of, this isn't an SEC team. To a point, to a point. There was a little bit of that, I think. Like that pre-conceived notion of they're not gonna be as physical as us, because they're not an SEC team."

We've got some culture problems on the team.

Bound to happen with all the transfers. Its difficult to instill values in a team because of too much coming and going.

I don't buy that. Other teams, like IU, have instilled a "make their *butt* quit" culture by getting the right transfers.

Heck, Landon Dickenson was a transfer and he was probably THE culture builder and tone setter for the offense.

What sorts of cultures have been instilled by DeBoer at his other stops?

1. He never stayed at any of these places long enough to really get a "Culture" running or a "Standard" up and running.

2. I don't think his program culture will ever be one to out physical the opponent....which means we will get out physicaled often.

3. Ragland has been one of my favorite players.

I hate to point this out because I know we've got some who are very sensitive to what is said about the HC. But the culture being instilled starts with the HC. That is one of the primary things THEY HAVE TO DO before even coaching one rep. Establish to the team what type of culture is going to exist at Alabama. Cignetti did a great job of establishing that and it showed in every aspect of how they played. We don't have a "rough", "tough", "mean" style of culture at Alabama anymore. I also fully understand that the erosion of the culture started showing under Saban. But DeBoer, in my opinion, has softened it further.

We've heard it for two years now from outsiders. How many times in two years have people from the outside said we looked "soft" when they watched us play? Teams no longer fear playing us and they no longer are getting their mouths busted when they do play us. That is what former players see as well and it is driving them crazy.

100%. The team is going to be a mirror of the head coach.

Nikhai Hill-Green made the statement about how tough the workouts were. The players always think what they are doing is difficult. They don't know tough. They just assume it is tough. I can 100% tell you that what we are doing now isn't nearly as difficult as what it was when Saban was HC. The proof is in the pudding. Toughness starts up front in the trenches. Our OL was a microcosm of what this program is currently. If they aren't being physical than how can you say we are creating a "tough" culture without being delusional. WR/QB/RB etc. are positions where you can be less than in the tough department and get away with it to some extent but up front you simply can't hide it. It will get you beat and get you embarrassed. Both things we have been a part of in the last two years. Deboer will have to go back to the drawing board on these things or things won't end well for him.

I read somewhere that the new OL coach stresses "violence" in his blocking scheme. Let's hope this instills some toughness and it spreads throughout the team. I just don't see a "violent" mentality coming from the HC.

Alabama has definitely been losing the head game part. They somewhat convinced themselves they were superior to Florida State and then got shellacked by them. Truth is Alabama was better than them but if you don't play to your potential then your potential isn't very meaningful. Certainly Alabama lost games during Saban's tenure they shouldn't have so lets not fire the coach just for that. Right now aside from Indiana every team seems to be struggling a bit with that. I also find it perplexing that the players still think the SEC mystique is still a thing. The Big 10 has won the last three titles. They are the standard now and the SEC is just another conference. Can you win it all from the SEC? sure, but it's not special any more. That's not the end of the world. There was a time earlier when that was true and the world kept spinning.

All true points. DeBoer prides himself on outscheming and we've seen what happens when the team is punched in the mouth.
