General question about winning a championship as a backup

Some players can say that won a Super Bowl, but they will never be able to show their kids a video of them playing in a Super Bowl.

In the 1976 World Series the Reds starting nine played every inning of the four game sweep. The DH was used for the entire series so they didn’t use pinch hitters. Only three relievers were used so just 16 appeared in a game. Did the others deserve a ring?

If you havent played a significant amount in the season then it depends on your own personal view as a player. I would be reluctant to call myself a SB winner if I hadnt played at all...ON a SB winning team yes, but not a SB winner...there is a difference. Contribution is key.

He was a POISONOUS presence on the team behind the scenes.

So no I don’t have the warm and fuzzies about him.

He’s a selfish person and a selfish player who only ever looked out for his own self interest.

Did absolutely Machiavellian things.

On top of that he was a TERRIBLE QB and the opposite of a Leader.

But I’ll agree with the idea that I’m tired of him being talked about.

People throw a hissy fit about ‘beating a dead horse’ talking about all the negative affects he had on the team for two years and how we should just let it go and move on…

But then here people are dredging his name up in ‘positive way’ over a participation trophy in the lightest sense of the word because he didn’t even participate.

So what are the rules when it come to Jalen Milroe?

We can’t talk about the bad stuff but perceived good stuff is okay?

Is that how it is?

I was at the Opening Day ceremony in 1996, and it was so weird seeing some of the names they called out to get a ring in front of the crowd (and Gawd was it COLD that day).

Steve Bedrosian - who pitched his last major league game on August 9 and wasn't even on the team for the down the stretch much less the postseason - got one. I was happy in his case because this was a guy who came up as a rookie on that dazzling 1982 team, got a bad rep when he started 37 times without a complete game. (This wouldn't be all that unusual today but in 1985?).

My grandmother, who listened to the games when her husband was watching, thought his name was
Bed Erosion.

I think it depends on the team itself. What the Seahawks decide to do is different than what the Braves, etc. would've done. Makes sense to me.

As for JM, I moved on as soon as he decided to go to the NFL. Regardless of the good and bad w/him, his time here was his time and then it ended. Same thing for Simpson as well. Simpson seems to have left Alabama w/a better off-the-field reputation than Milroe, but again, moving onto the next guy.

I didn't say I was or was not happy for him so not sure where that comment came from.

"Not sure why he was singled out." Because I saw him on the sideline in the game and got me thinking about player contribution in games throughout the season, and how on field contribution is considered when winning a championship.

I was just really asking a general question. I guess I should have known using a polarizing player such as JM would have these reactions. I was merely meaning a backup player that didn't have much actual in game reps throughout the season and won a championship. I should have just said that instead.

I just can’t get so worked up about a guy who in the greater scheme of things means absolutely nothing in terms of what matters in my life.

Fair enough and for my part I’d love nothing more than for everyone to move on and just not bring him up anymore one way or another.

No negatives no positives.

Just persona non grata.

It just gets under my skin for people to chastise others for the negative out of one side of their mouth and ask people to drop it and then those same people bring his name back up when they by god know there are a lot of people that do not like him and do not want to see his name.

(Not you btw… just in general)
