I wonder if Bruce Pearl realizes how much of a buffoon he is.
Ratted out a bunch of coaches when he was an assistant at Iowa. Permanently burned bridges in the coaching community.
Minor extra benefits at UTe -- a barbecue party at his house which impermissibly included recruits. But lied about it, pressured other to lie to cover his own lies, and worked with a recruit's father to get their stories straight. Got in far more trouble for the lie than he would have for just 'fessing up.
Got busted for failing to monitor his staff in a bribery scandal. Anybody who believes he wasn't part of the scandal or at least fully knew about it, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale, cheap. You know, for tax purposes.
Wanted his baby boy to get the barn job when he retired. Pressured the AD to promise that. AD told him to pound sand. Pearl then bent the AD over a barrel, resigned when all available candidates were preparing for their own seasons, and pretty much forced the AD to give the job to baby boy. The AD, no Rhodes Scholar candidate himself, responds with a 5-year contract.
Now retired, Pearl weighs in on the Alabama / Bediako / NCAA legal battle and says that Alabama should be banned from the NCAA tournament despite breaking no rules.
A short time later, Pearl admits to jobbing his employer by staging the whole transition of the barn coaching job so sonny boy could get it -- confessing to nepotism, including using that word.
You can't make that stuff up.
The shame is that he really is a good coach.
