News Article: Bama and Texas Tech Coaches on UNC Shortlist

Don’t think this NIL budget rankings capture the reality of what the schools actually have to spend.

It’s not that bama is way behind but it’s more that the others they have $5M or more want him. Do I know he is still annoyed about what happened this past off season and Holt? No but I know he was. That’s the nerve wracking part.

I think him coaching team USA is to help with the recruiting and alleviate some of that. CNO is an outward emotional guy so he may have only been temporarily letting out some frustration at moments that are there all the time. He hates losing so losing Holt for example could have been some venting.

As far as UK I wonder who got to make roster decisions. Didn’t seem like the type of team pope would want to fit his system so maybe he gets a year to pick his guys vs what they did last year. Also I agree big time Mo was not worth bidding over.
Take Oweh off that team and I'm not sure they finish above .500%

Whether Mo was worth bidding over or not wasn't the point. The point was we are not a program that by all accounts wanted a returning vital player to come back and was able to meet the market demands to keep him. Forget who the player was, ideally we can re-sign our own guys.

In an ESPN article on the NC search, Oats was mentioned but almost as an afterthought, behind several bigger names. IMO, Oats does not seem to fit the Carolina BB culture. They are somewhat like Alabama football - but then, neither does Golden.

It could be that Alabama’s unfair treatment by the media which has unfairly made Nate look a little unsavory, might keep him from some big jobs like NC. Most probably won’t care though.

There's been some smoke lately that Billy Donovan is getting tired of the nonsense of the Bulls FO (and trust me, Bulls fans are beyond tired of their nonsense) and could be on his way out of town. So that could be another name to watch out for with UNC.

People keep saying it’s Donovan or the Florida coach.

It’s worth mentioning that the Alabama women’s coach left, Alabama is close to the bottom in spending fo women’s basketball. Who knows where Alabama is regarding men’s?

On the plus side, the “Lily white” programs of Kansas and UNC won’t touch Oats because of the superficial drama of Bediako and Holloway. Not right now anyway. That’s why Hurley isn’t in play either.

The Vandy and Iowa coaches are going to be in focus. As long as we extend Oats, the next program we’d have to worry about is Michigan State.

Saw an unsubstantiated rumor about Wade maybe back to Baton Rouge? lol.

Well; it's legal now to make huge offers :)

I bet Oats wasn't being talked about as a possibility by the media when we hired him. I bet any AD's worth their salt will see through that media treatment.

Curry leaving for south Florida was for more money, personally and nil, Golden will not be going to Carolina, to much baggage, I don't believe Oats will leave he has a daughter at Alabama, one in high school, one in middle school here, alot harder on girls than boys moving to new locations, but I'll say this,Bama needs to start opening up the pocket book more for basketball

I have seen a few mention Darius Miles as why they don't want Oats. They also keep lumping Brandon Miller in with that. They called Oats "sketchy".

I can't tell you how disappointed I was the morning I opened up my laptop and read "Bama Hires Nate Oates from Buffalo."

I said, "Who???" I'd never heard of him!!! Honestly!

I saw that too.

But their fan base is probably alot like the Alabama fan base after Coach Bryant and before Nick Saban. They believe they deserve something because of their name.

They want a splash name. They want to win the PC! I'm not sure CNO is a name "big" enough for them, even with his success at a non-blue blood basketball school.

On another NC discussion board thread, they talked about "pace" and many of them feel they shouldn't go too high tempo because it will hurt them defensively. When I read that I thought, we'll those guys don't want CNO.

The only NC b-ball discussion board I've found is 247. The Keeping it Heel is a blog page like Bammer Hammer.

Does anybody know of a good NC board that's similar to TideFans?

I was familiar with Oats prior to his hiring only because one of my best friends and former work colleague is from Buffalo.

When Nate was hired I received a text from him stating “you’re getting a hell of a coach. He’ll do awesome things for ya’ll. Better hope that you can keep him”.

Your friend was on point...and in just a day or two, after reading about Oates, I got real excited too!

And, I've not been disappointed!

And this "feels" even better than when Wimp had us rolling in the 80's to early 90's!
