News Article: Bama and Texas Tech Coaches on UNC Shortlist

I don't think we are doing as badly as some think...

We spent 9.5 million? I cannot believe that! I thought for sure that we were much farther behind.

Also, why do all of these sports articles read exactly like the ChatGPT slop that anyone could come up with in about 3 minutes...

Your friend was on point...and in just a day or two, after reading about Oates, I got real excited too!

And, I've not been disappointed!

And this "feels" even better than when Wimp had us rolling in the 80's to early 90's!
Yeah I really valued my friend’s opinion on Oats. Not just because he is from Buffalo but also because he grew up loving basketball, graduated from Kentucky and coached AAU basketball in the northeast a number of years. He isn’t just another “fan”. He is a guy that truly knows and loves the game.

On the plus side, the “Lily white” programs of Kansas and UNC won’t touch Oats because of the superficial drama of Bediako and Holloway. Not right now anyway. That’s why Hurley isn’t in play either.

The Vandy and Iowa coaches are going to be in focus. As long as we extend Oats, the next program we’d have to worry about is Michigan State.

Saw an unsubstantiated rumor about Wade maybe back to Baton Rouge? lol.
The rumor about Wade back to LSU has been percolating for a few weeks now. Word is Wade never fully embraced the fanbase or others in the athletic department at NC State.

I just don’t see Oats or Golden being a fit at Chapel Hill. However coaching changes lead to dominoes falling elsewhere. My concern is UNC (or others similar) openings leads to openings where Nate could be a better fit.

Especially if Aden was only getting $300-$500k. Who got the money? Philon?

As a side note, Butler has hired Ronald Nored as head coach. Ronald is a product of Homewood High School in Birmingham and played for Brad Stevens at Butler.

Congratulations to Ronald!

IMO, it feels better because it is better. Nate has taken the program much further than Wimp ever did in 7 years vs 12. This in a league that is far better than the SEC was then and being at a disadvantage (NIL) that Wimp never faced both nationally and league-wise, not to mention his top of the line OOC schedules.

Wimp had more success than anyone prior to Nate and should be deeply appreciated for it, but Nate has clearly passed him. If Alabama was on a level playing field, Nate’s recruiting would be almost Saban-like.

Wimp had to compete with Kentucky blatantly paying players. He even won a couple of SEC titles because Kentucky was on probation for paying players.

Most folks know Bama is King in SEC football and KY is that in SEC B-ball.

But very few people know Bama is historically a strong 2nd in SEC B-ball.
Historically speaking, being second in the SEC in basketball is like your wife saying to you, "I love you honey, you are the second best I've ever had." It hasn't been very good. I remember 20 years ago when the ACC ran laps around the SEC. My how times have changed.

Sidenote: We will find out tonight and tomorrow if the Big 10 is as good as they are proclaiming to be.

The Wade rumor is now a developing story. I guess the FBI investigating you just isn't a big deal?

I’m not sure I’d say a Strong #2

It depends on how much weight you give to SEC
only play vs NCAAT/National success.

Kentucky is #1 with a bullet

But Florida and Arkansas both have strong resumes too for the #2 ranking with Multiple Final Four appearances as well as having won a NC.

The Battle for #2-4 is between Us and those two and all three have a case.

I do think CNO can get us to being a Strong case for #2 but we need to make a few more FF’s and eventually win a NC.

Yeah it is hard to say that as strongly as it used to be. Florida now has 3 titles.

I think a lot of reporters are just lazy and use AI to write their articles for them as their subject matter is largely repetitive anyways... 😎

According to Oats,
"It's not the first time. Look, lot of respect for the other programs that might open. They've got great basketball tradition.

As a young high school coach, look, I didn't think I'd ever be in this spot to be honest with you. If you've gotten to known me, I'm not a guy that's always trying to jump around. The grass is not always greener. I love Alabama. My girls love Alabama.

They're here with me. I love working with the administration I work with. I think Greg Byrne is the best AD in the country and I love working with him. It would be great if I could work with him the rest of my career.

Here's a longer article that contains the quote above.
