Bama Game Thread: MBB Sweet Sixteen - Bama vs Wolverines - Friday 6:35cst TBS/TRU

Not a Coach Cal fan or for that matter Rick Pitino but both have made comments in recent weeks concerning lack of physical maturity of many high school recruits. Pitino stating almost unequivocally he would go to the portal or find the older international player that are bigger, stronger, older and more experienced and you can evaluate them against better competition. Calipari even stated that “they made sure the guys they brought in from high school for next year were physically big and strong enough to play against 24 and 25 year olds they see now.”

Nate Oats has done a phenomenal job here. A run to the Sweet 16 most seasons with the occasional Elite 8 and our only Final Four. Now in order to take the next step Nate needs those older “bangers” that only NIL can bring.
Agree 100%. One thing we're seeing now is the rapidly changing landscape of college basketball. Not only do you have NIL, but there's definite trends taking shape and one is the ability to import multiple "physical guys" who have NBA bodies in one offseason. Great accomplishment to make 4 straight SS's, but I suspect both Oats and UA basketball fans are itching for that next step. Big questions will be (1) will Oats be willing to modify his system and (2) will we have the funds to truly compete.

Let's not forget that Collins ONYEJIAKA , 6/11, 265 never got to play due to a heart issue and KEITENN Bristow , light 6'10', only played 5 early games due to injury. They might have helped

Do we know Onyejiaka status in terms of medical clearance? I guess the second question is, assuming he does get cleared, whether he returns or hits the portal?

Playing their type game and with only 4 fouls on them in a half, yes, you're right. Frankly, I've gotten to where I detest watching the college game now, with the money being the lord of the court and the game resembling rugby more than basketball...
Sitting here watching Purdue - Arizona. Trying to understand how an offensive player with the ball in the post is allowed to “hip check” the defender with established position to gain two feet of space, then “dip and drive” a shoulder into the defender’s chest to clear out the defender the rest of the way?
If you can’t play “thug and mug” in the post in college basketball, you’re playing with one hand tied behind your back..

There's talk that he's been cleared of the heart issue and is planning to play next year.

That’s been a gripe of mine last few years. They have been inching to all offense type of game and taking away defense. D plays one hand tied. I have really only seen us get called for offensive fouls consistently and others rarely.
