2026 Basketball Recruiting

I know these guys don't grow on trees but a Victor Wembanyama prototype is the ideal type Center in Oats style. Someone who is elite at rebounding and rim protection but also has the skill set to shoot 3's and win off the dribble. Not sure how many of those types exist in the world but you would think we could find one and that person would also see how Alabama would be the perfect fit for them.
Victor is a once in a lifetime talent. He is a unicorn. There has never been anyone like him and never will be anyone like him again.

Wouldn't go that far but he is definitely a once in a generation like talent. My point was more the skillset than it was the player. For instance, Yaxel Lendeborg would be unreal in Bama's system. He is good but not a one in a million type guy. The players we need are out there we just have to have the resources and wherewithal to go out and get them.

All we need is a bored billionaire and Oats can make a dynasty.

I think those players are very few and far between. CNO is an excellent recruiter. If you are this 7 footer who is a beast in the paint with a beautiful 3 point shot, you'd walk on broken glass to sign a scholly with Alabama. But the fact we've not landed the "perfect 5" in this many years just tells me they are like a unicorn.

What to do? Settle for the 7 footer who stays in the lane. The recruit 4 other starters to shoot the lights out! Kinda like Cliff, but bigger and stronger!

Think clif and beds are good fits, need the defender and pick and roll to just throw it up for the dunk. Didn’t have that this year excluding those few games. Agree the perfect fit is a unicorn. Think he keeps tweaking scheme to make it easier to have a fit in the middle though.

He’s got to have 1-3s that will crash the boards instead of watching each other’s three point shots.

Aday Mara is a great example of a non-3 point shooting (prior to yesterday had 2 3 point makes all year on 8 attempts) Center who would still be a great fit in Oats system imo. 7'3 player who dominates rebounds, blocks shots, and sets great screens. Ironically he is also a European pro who the NCAA says is A-ok to play with 18 year old freshman. Hopefully Oats rubs this in the NCAA's face and goes out and gets an International all-star team this offseason to add to the great recruiting class and handful of returners we have coming back.

Sure but would be limited as he was gassed during our game and kept asking to come out. So he would be limited but I would take a guy like him.

To be honest, he would be a very bad fit for our system. You have to have a five that can shoot from beyond the three-point line. We can’t overreact to things. College sports is historically known for trends.

I promise you if it had been SEC teams hitting the euro pro circuit. We wouldn’t be here right now. Plus, once you get all of the grown men out of the game, that changes as well.

We need to find a back up Aiden, who can do Aiden things. We don’t need big for the sake of big.

There are a lot of options out there that I think will fit And if it’s true that Nate is getting an extra 4 million, he should be able to find one or maybe even 2 and a point guard

IMO, Sherrell is not athletic or strong enough to hold up against top level teams. He is very weak around the rim and can't finish if contested at all. He's about a 33% 3Pt shooter; OK but not great by any means. I was impressed by Michigan State's center, Carson Cooper. He's 6'11" and shoots 40% from 3Pt. And he looked to play a lot stronger and quicker than Sherrell, even against someone like Tarris Reid from Uconn, who is a beast. I would think we should be able to find someone like Cooper, and afford them.

He’s still a underclassman. He’s much stronger this year than last. He will get there. Michigan state plays a half court slow pace defense focused style. That’s not our style.

I hope so. I'm not sure he has the drive. When I hear him talk and see him interact with the team, he seems extremely laid back. I hope he keeps developing, especially his legs. I was taken aback when I saw him in person this year about how thin his legs were and how weak he seems down low.

Ironically, I thought Charles was much thinner in person as well.

You may actually go on to something with regards to “laid-back”. Clowney and Pringle and even Wague all played with an edge to them. We could get away with 6’9”-6’11” guys that play with their hair on fire, especially under the rim

I really think Cliff for four years would’ve ended up being a total beast for us
