10 best coaches/5 worst

the list of best didn't mention anything about BAMA, so it's biased and a worthless list. The list should have been:

1. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA
2. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA
3. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA
4. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA
5. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA
6. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA
7. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA
8. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA
9. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA
10. anybody that's ever coached at BAMA

The Worst:

1. anybody else
2. anybody else
3. anybody else
4. anybody else
5. anybody else

That's a completely bogus list. Mack Brown has only had ONE championship season in 23 years of coaching and he makes the list? Without Vince Young playing Superman, he doesn't even have that.

It's not all time. Read the friggin article. It's over the last 5 years.

Do you think Mike Shula should have been listed as the best? Also you have to have coached a 1a team for the last 3 years.

I can't emphasize this part enough: This is not a career-achievement list. This is a real-time picture of who's doing the best and worst jobs right now.

Based on that, then yes, Saban has done nothing lately... that'll change this fall fur shure

I love seeing Fran on the list of the worst, but don't agree with Groh being there considering that they had a great year this past year, even if they underachieved in the 4 previous years. I don't know how Sly isn't on the list, unless he hasn't been at MSU for the requisite 5 years.

2) Dennis Franchione, Texas A&M: Having now had four years to gauge Coach Fran's tenure in College Station, I think we can safely describe it in one word: disappointing (15-17 Big 12 record). A program like A&M's should never be this mediocre for this long.

I truly believe in Krama. You Reap what you sow. I have forgiven Coach Fran and will just move on. I do not care if he is successful or not.

The Statement above is true. aTm deserves better than what is currently there. Again after the way the fans came on our board I will not lose any sleep over it. Not all aTm fans are like those who came on our board and bragged about taking Coach Fran, but a lot did. Those aTm fans reaped what they sowed. Not one of those braggarts has come back to let the Tide Fans know how sorry we are for losing Coach Fran. :biggrin2:

In a way, we owe Fran big. He proved the truth of that old saying that even a mediocre coach can prosper in Tuscaloosa. He did it the hard way by bolting to the Ags and becoming, well, a middle of the pack drudge. So, don't be too hard on Frannie. He's good advertising.

Franchione was a fraud before he ever signed with Alabama. His resume was built at Div 2 schools, he never played college football, and graduated from Pittsburg frickin State, now is that the resume you want for the HC at Alabama. Mal made a huge mistake in hiring him, we would have been better off keeping Dubose if Franchione was the only candidate. TAMU got what they wanted and now they are paying the piper. Two more years and he is back to Division 2 ball.

Not defending Fraud or anything, but the work he did at TCU had a lot to do with him coming here. He went 10-1 in 2000 and TCU was looked at as a possible BCS crasher that year. Granted, a lot of that had to do with the fact he had a little weapon by the name of LaDainian Tomlinson.

Also, I don't remember him being the only candidate. Butch Davis, whether he was just using us for leverage or not, was high on the radar initially.

I didn't see spurrier on that list did I...?

He hasn't been at South Carolina the years required for consideration. This is what it says:
"One other note: As always, candidates had to be a Division I-A coach for at least the past three seasons to be considered for either category. So Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, Charlie Weis, Bret Bielema and Chris Petersen aren't eligible just yet. Neither, mercifully, are Greg Robinson or Ed Orgeron."

I'm sure the author put that there to make sure his inbox wasn't flooded with angry mail from all sides.

Did you even read the blurb? HE has won more games in the last 5 years than we have won this decade.

...and I love how Vince wasn't any good until he the NC, now he was the only reason. Also, does the head coach not get any credit for recruiting the best college football player in recent memory?

Don't be an ....

Hook 'em horns !

Look, I am from Austin and have followed Texas my whole life. I graduated from Alabama, and it is upsetting to me when our fans say things I would expect to see on a barner board.

edit...good point beatt

Then you must also believe in Instant-Krama.. ;)

Mandell did mention a fact that in order to be on the best coaches list you had to have coached at least 3 consecutive years in college football. As a result, he mentioned names of Weiss, Spurrier, Saban, and someone else as not eligible to be on that list.
