Well after Bama whipped up on Tennessee in Knoxville it appears that some of their commits are showing serious interest in Bama and talking with the Bama coaches. There is talk going around that OT Aubrey Phillips and LB Marlon Walls are talking with Tide coaches. It is also being said that LB Jerod Askew may not be a solid commit to UT now and he may be showing some renewed interest in Bama. Right now this is all behind the scenes and nothing has come out on the recruiting sites. We will see how this turns out and if they schedule any visits to Bama.

It sure is nice to see all these big time recruits interested in Bama. Sure wish we had room for them all.
If Bama could bring in 30 recruits again this year we would have another #1 recruiting class for sure.:frown::biga:

While I certainly don't think we'll bring in as many as we did a year ago Rodney Orr of TiderInsider seems to think we'll oversign again in this class, maybe somewhere between 25-28. We may not finish #1 but with those kind of numbers top 5 is almost a shoe in, possibly even top 3. :)

It looks like GT may land two pretty good RBs, Orwin Smith and Demond Dennis. I think they would be two good wishbone RBs. Bama offered them both early on in the process but neither have been a seriously RB prospect for a while now.

Carver RB Dennis receives offer from Georgia Tech
Dennis, who is being recruited by the Jackets as an A-back, says he’s also considering offers from Illinois and Louisville.

“But Georgia Tech is my number one right now,” he said. “I really like it. I like how they run the ball. I know I’d get a lot of touches in the game.”

S Elliott McGaskin is saying that he is "waiting" to hear from Alabama, and that no one is really talking to him right now. He says he is open to all schools right now, but frankly it doesn't seem like he is getting much interest from anyone. He says he is on track to graduate in May, but of course we know how that goes; I suppose he could be in much worse of an academic situation than he is letting on.

Either way, it seems increasingly clear at this point that he is no longer in Alabama's plans. I don't know where he is going to end up, but it's not going to be in Tuscaloosa, it would seem.

This is a strange situation. Scout wrote an article 'Elliott McGaskin Talks of Return' back in June which is in the profile above. In that article McGaskin said that he still had an Alabama offer and that he was committed to Alabama for the 2009 class. He said that he had spoken to the Bama coaches and they were expecting him to come to Bama. The article plainly stated that he thought that he had a Bama offer and he said that he was committed to Bama. I even moved him into the commit list for a little while waiting for the recruiting sites to list him as a Bama commit. Of course after a while when Scout or no other recruiting services listed him as a Bama commit, I removed him as a commitment. Obviously right now he does not have a commitable offer and from the looks of things he may not get one either.

It looks like S Frank Crawford is going to end up signing with Ole Miss. Even though at one time I believe that he had a commitable offer from Bama, I don't think that is the case now. I do still have him listed on the Prospect List but for a while now I have not thought that he would be a part of the 2009 Bama class.

Nearing a decision?
University of Mississippi has recruited several players off of Gulliver Prep's squad, and it looks like they are getting close to receiving another commitment from their team.

"I have not committed yet, but I am getting close," added Frank Crawford. "I am just waiting on my (official) visit (that takes place from November 26-28). Me and Artice Kellam are going over there together. He already committed (to Ole Miss), so he has been on me pretty good."

I cannot say that his absence really shocks me.

He seems like a good kid, but I just don't see where he is the caliber of athlete that Saban is looking for. He isn't overly athletic as it is, and frankly he's going to need to add a good twenty pounds -- at least -- to play safety in this league. He could add that and still be about the smallest safety in the conference, and when you start talking about putting kids at skill positions who already aren't overly athletic, and then you want them to add 20-30 pounds, that's a major concern.

I don't think he's a bad prospect, mind you, and I do think he could possibly turn into a pretty good player at this level, but honestly I just think we have many superior options at the position.

I haven't seen it posted yet, but according to BOL, JUCO OL James Carpenter received an Alabama offer and now has the Tide as his leader. A decision could come in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, I really don't know what to make of that one, honestly.

Most have Carpenter pegged as a guard, but why do we need a JUCO guard? Perhaps you can say that it's because Boswell, Love, and Jones have all ended up at tackle, but if all of those guys are staying there, then what is the insistence on signing so many tackles in this class? It just seems like that would create a very big logjam at tackle while neglecting the guard position.

Moreover, I'm not sure that I see any major issues right now at guard. We do lose Marlon Davis after this season, but Mike Johnson and David Ross -- the top back-up at guard -- return for the 2009 season. Perhaps the staff really just doesn't think that Ross and the back-up guards can get the job done right now? You have to imagine that we would be going after this kid to start... it's hard to see CNS offering a scholarship to a JUCO guard considering how little of a rotation you have on the offensive line. Perhaps CNS and company are really concerned about having to depend on Ross or someone else to start at guard next year... in all fairness we really have no proven commodity there to replace Davis.

On the other hand, perhaps Saban and company just feel that Carpenter is that good of a prospect? That may or may not be the case, but I do feel it is something that should at least be mentioned as a possibility.

Anyway, one way or the other, I just really don't know what to make of this situation with Carpenter. We'll just have to see how it shakes out in the coming weeks, but right now it gives me more questions than it does answers.

I don't know what position Carpenter would wind up at for sure but he's one of several guys that we're after in this class that could play multiple positions along the OL. I believe the staff is just trying in most cases to recruit the best athletes possible and figure out where they want to play them once they arrive on campus. Also I don't believe Carpenter would have received an offer unless CNS thought he could come in and contribute immediately. JOMO.

Jamar Hornsby was quoted as saying he had an offer from us. Is this true ? I would be disappointed, given his criminal case.

If he is allowed to join the Bama team it will mean that CNS is relatively certain that he is trying to straighten his life out. Even then he will be on a short leash......CNS won't allow any uncalled for distractions on this team and will remove any sore spot before it can spread.
People can change and this young man needs some discipline and "hard love" in his life!!!

I am sure 'if' Jamar Hornsby currently has a Bama offer as he says that he does, that it is very conditional. If CNS wants him then obviously he knows all about the young man's character and his football pontential. I doubt that he has a Bama offer. They are going to have to turn away some top prospects that they have offered as it is. Out of the ten or less scholarships left to fill, every spot will really count.

Former Gator looking for a new home
There is also another SEC program that is heavily involved.

"Alabama is another program I am looking at hard. They have offered me, along with Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Troy. I know Coach Smart (at Alabama) really well. He was an assistant at Georgia when they recruited me out of high school. He showed me around on my official visit at Georgia. I have that trust factor with him because of our long standing relationship."
Now in an article 'Former Florida DB visits Ole Miss' in his Rivals.com profile from Nov. 17th he says that Alabama has been in touch and he thinks they are close to offering. So I personally do not think Bama has offered him. Also he has not ever visited Bama as far as I have heard of.

Will the Tide Offer?
"The Alabama coaches came by my high school a few weeks ago," Marsalis Teague said. "We've been talking a lot since they've been here and they've been recruiting me a lot more. They really want me to come down there and visit with coach Nick Saban. They feel pretty good that they'll offer me." Teague will be attending the Alabama/Auburn game on Nov. 29, possibly on an unofficial trip.

Marsalis Teague, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound four-star athlete from Henry County High School in Paris, Tenn., has helped lead his team to a perfect 12-0 record and a spot in the state 4A playoffs.

I agree it looks like Bama is just going after a whole bunch of top linemen. There are now four OT with offers. I say they are OTs because Bama has told several OGs that they are not recruiting any more OGs. That is not including top prospects Brandon Moore or Kerry Murphy who are being recruited for the DL but could very well end up on the OL. Bama already has five OL commits if you count D. J. Fluker as an OT. I know some of the OL commits could end up on the DL but all of the OL commits with the exception of Fluker are saying they are all being recruited for the OL. It will be very interesting to see how this all ends up.

Here are the four OT with offers:
James Carpenter
Bobby Massie
Morgan Moses
Charles Siddoway
