2009 NFL Draft: Early Entries

Ah, good for your Niners, but personally I was hoping to see him stick around at Ball State and spank Auburn next year.

I was thinking the same thing. This game was looking pretty difficult for Auburn until Ball State lost Brady Hoke and Nate Davis in the past month.

Wide receiver Jeremy Childs will enter the NFL draft, leaving Boise State after his junior year and as the school's No. 2 all-time pass catcher. Childs was the Broncos' leading receiver last season, catching 72 passes for 802 yards and seven touchdowns. He was a first-team all-Western Athletic Conference selection for the second consecutive season. Childs finished his Boise State career with 168 catches for 1,999 yards and 17 TDs.

ESPN is reporting that LSU WR Brandon LaFell will enter the NFL Draft this season. I cannot find a link just yet, but I imagine one should be coming soon.

It hurts them in 2009, but that might lock up Randle for them in recruiting.

Also, just so you guys know, the deadline for declaring for the NFL Draft is this Thursday, January 15th, so these guys are down to their final couple of days to make a decision one way or the other.

Alright then. :p Obviously far from a done deal though....

Sources close to the National Football Post have told us that Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, barring an injury in Thursday night’s BCS National Championship game against Florida, will declare for the NFL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound sophomore and Heisman Trophy winner threw for 4,464 yards and 48 touchdowns with only 6 interceptions in leading the Sooners to the Big 12 championship and a 12-1 record.

Indeed far from a done deal and apparently they had bad sources.

The Heisman Trophy winner's announcement came at the same time as two other key offensive teammates similarly announced they will be coming back. Tackle Trent Williams and tight end Jermaine Gresham will return. Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy announced he would return for next season earlier this week. Bradford had been projected as a first-round draft choice and among the first quarterbacks selected in the draft.

Here you go.

More sources....
Sources close to Mark Sanchez and USC tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the quarterback plans to announce Thursday that he will forgo his senior season to enter the NFL draft. Sanchez's father, Nick Sanchez, told ESPN's Shelley Smith on Wednesday his son is undecided. "Mark is waiting for Coach [Pete] Carroll to return from Hawaii, which is tonight," Nick Sanchez told Smith. "Mark didn't want to do anything without Coach Carroll." Nick Sanchez said his son will meet with Carroll either Wednesday night or early Thursday.

Ohio State junior wide receiver Brian Hartline announced today that he will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft. He ranked second on the team in touchdown catches (4) and tied for second in receptions (21) this fall. Hartline didn't improve his draft stock this season, as Ohio State ranked 105th nationally in pass offense (150.2 ypg) and his receptions total dropped significantly. But his decision to turn pro isn't a huge surprise, namely because Hartline seemed to feel part of the Buckeyes' outgoing senior class.

I didnt know if anyone posted this yet but it now appears that Brandon Spikes will return to the Gators next season leaving only Percy Harvin to decide. So far the top schools from this years end of the season rankings i.e. Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, USC have had everyone return except Sanchez that is fairly impressive.

If you had told me 2 weeks ago that Bradford, Spikes, Gresham, and Mays would all come back i would have thought you were out of your mind....

Also Greg Hardy is returning to school, apparently Nutt was able to talk him into it...

Now to see if he can ever stay healthy in the NFL. My money says he can't and won't...

Does it matter? Heck, he had 5 catches for 50 yards and 9 carries for 121 yards against Oklahoma with a hairline fracture in his ankle. :conf2:

In other news....
Junior cornerback Donald Washington announced Thursday that he will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft. After being suspended the first two games for an undisclosed violation, Washington returned to action but lost his starting job to sophomore Chimdi Chewka. Washington started only one game and finished the season with 22 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. "It has been a difficult and emotional decision," Washington said in a statement. "I will especially, and most importantly, miss all of my teammates and brothers. I wish them nothing but the best and continued success."

Penn State defensive end Maurice Evans has made himself eligible for the NFL draft. The 6-foot-2, 264-pound junior was held out of the first three games of the season because of off-field issues. He finished with three sacks for the eighth-ranked Big Ten champion Nittany Lions (11-2), who lost to USC in the Rose Bowl. Evans had 12.5 sacks in his first season as a starter and was among the finalists for the 2007 Ted Hendricks Award as the nation's best defensive end.

University of Oregon junior cornerback Jairus Byrd has submitted papers to formally enter the National Football League’s draft and forego his final year of eligibility but said he will use the next few days to re-evaluate that decision. Byrd, a Clayton, Mo., standout and three-year starter earned first-team Pacific-10 Conference all-league honors this season after finishing as the team’s fourth-leading tackler (83) and sharing the team-leading in interceptions (5). Byrd also finished second in the conference in passes defended (19) and third in punt returns (12.3 avg.). Included was an 87-yard punt return for a touchdown at Purdue. His 17 career interceptions stand one shy of Oregon’s career record.
