Politics: 2020 Dem POTUS candidate catch all discussion thread

Y'all might think Bernie ain't the answer but the dem's aren't winning in 2020 unless they get Bernie voters out in the general election. I'll go ahead and tell you there is a snowball's chance in hell of them voting for Beto, Biden, or Harris. These three are who I think the DNP braintrust wish would win with maybe Warren being an a compromise that they realize would get railroaded by Trump's rhetoric.
You may be correct. There may be enough Bernie fanatics again with the "my way or the highway" attitude to sit home and give the country another four of Trump. They remind me of Naderites...

Maybe they're just Accelerationists. I held my nose and circled HRC in 2016.

What is "Accelerationists?"

Basically Posadism. In a nutshell: the only true way to bring about the new working class order is for the world to collapse and the people take what is left in rubble. This was some nuclear age communist thought. "Just go ahead and launch the nukes and destroy yourselves capitalists"

I think Pete Buttigieg might push out Beto eventually (or at least I hope he does). And I don't think there is any real way Biden is a threat.

Harris, is another story. She probably has a real shot.

I've been waiting for the Ezra Klein interview with Buttigieg, since these interviews always dive deep into the details. This was no different, and IMO it answered the question, "what would be your very first priority in office." Structural and democratic reform, which would be my answer as well, and then talked about the details of what that means for a long time. While everyone else is throwing grand policy ideas into the winds, Buttigieg and Warren are the only two making the argument that fixing the system is paramount, and that you can't keep trying to ram policy through the broken mechanism that is our current democracy.

stacey abrams is doing a lot of good work on voter suppression efforts around the country. it will be interesting to see if she throws her hat in the presidential fray or runs for senate

I really hope she does this. She'd be excellent. IMO, the best outcome would be for Abrams and Beto to run for Senate in respective states, and for all the Senators now in the running to remain exactly where they are.

the evangelical morons are about to pass a 6 week "heartbeat" bill here in jawjuh. i think that she could have a good chance at unseating hardcore magat perdue with the backlash we will see from that bill.

I thought she was being floated as a possible veep for Biden? Then again, looks like a Biden candidacy may never get off the ground.

I actually think she would be a great host for a political talk show or something outside of elective office.

Bernie Sanders declines to say when he will release tax returns

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders sidestepped questions Thursday about when he will release his tax returns, with the Vermont independent hinting he could fulfill his six-week old pledge to make public 10 years of tax returns on April 15 -- Tax Day.

Yet, as quickly as Sanders suggested that, he appeared to backtrack and wouldn't commit that he would release them then.

"Do you know what April 15th is? It's Tax Day," Sanders told CNN on Capitol Hill when asked if there was an issue to releasing his taxes. "So, I think we want to make sure we have all of them together and as I said, they will be released soon."

When asked if that meant he would not necessarily release his tax returns on April 15, Sanders responded, "That's it. Thank you very much."

Not terribly surprising to me, given how oddly evasive he was about this in 2016.
