National Titles 18
in the previous pre

I was struck by how similar this was to the Democrat pronouncements in the 1860 presidential election.
1. There was an insurrection including some deaths.
2. Some Republicans were aware and did nothing to stop it.
3. There was a congressional investigation. Democrats sought to highlight the story and Republican complicity. Republicans sought to place procedural roadblocks in front of the committee.
4. Democrats sought to attribute that complicity.to every Republican.
5. A book, published by a third party apparently endorsing violence against the political opponents of the author was published and some Republicans explicitly endorsed the book.
6. Some Democrats conclude that "I don't think it ends well for many of us if these people win."

Please note that I am not saying NationalTitles18 is a secessionists or a fan of slavery. (I am sure he is neither of those).
I just found the paralles interesting.
Well, they were right. It certainly didn't end well.

I just got TW's vote of confidence. That means getting fired is just around the corner.

Trump has a stump speech and repeats everything he says each and every time he goes out in front of a crowd.

Of course he's mentally incapable of following a script or of staying on topic so he meanders and rambles like the old man he is about whatever is running through his mind at the moment without a filter to stop the things he maybe should hold inside. But he still repeats the same things over and over in speech after speech.

And no more people are voting for Harris simply because she is a woman than are voting for Trump simply because he is white or a man or because they don't think a woman can handle being president. Those are stupid reasons to vote for or against someone too, but Trumpers and totally nots never say anything about that.

Harris Leads Trump in Three Key States, Times/Siena Polls Find
New surveys of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania taken this week offer the latest indication of a dramatic reversal in standing for the Democratic Party since President Biden abandoned his re-election bid.
Watched a short video this morining about the declining percent of Republican votes in Texas. We all have suspected this watching the close votes in previous Ted Cruz re-election campaigns. The video goes on to discuss how a large percent of Texas's growth has been to the Austin area and has trended heavily Democratic in addition to Hispanic votes that have trended to be majority Democratic . Obviously when Texas becomes a swing state it will end the solid red wall that has existed since the passing of the Civil Rights Act in 1964.

On her worst day she is more qualified to be president than Trump.
As a fiscal conservative I have a lot of reservations about big government social programs but consider the comments about Trump being better for the economy to be complete fabrication.
I vote for Harris because I think Trump is an out and out liar and that is one of his better traits. Deep down I supect that Harris on policy is closer to the middle on issues where Reagan, Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton were than the Fascist Trump!

I see all of this " big government spending" and "deficit concerns" that go on and on without a word uttered about reducing corporate taxes on corporations and billionaires and expending $1 Trillion annually on Defense Companies and wasteful programs at NASA. This is pushed through by both parties. What about the two 20 year wars that began under Bush Jr. How much they contributed to todays deficits. These are both side issues that will be debated for years.

The veteran part has haunted him since 2008. Agreeing to serve two additional years command sergeant major just to abandon your troops because you are getting shipped to Iraq is pretty crappy and cowardly.

I would take him over the Cheeto and cat person hater any day of the week and twice on Sunday but I don’t think dismissing the above facts just because the other side is more deplorable is right either.

When did he submit his retirement request?

Well, they were right. It certainly didn't end well.
I think that is the key enduring insight.
White southerners (and the Democracy was the largest party in the South by 1860, especially in the Deep South) came to believe that the election of a Republican meant official federal support for slave insurrections that put at risk the entire white population of the southern states, whether they owned slaves or not (the majority of those murdered by Nat Turner in 1831 and John Brown in 1859 were non-slaveholders) so all were at risk. Republicans knew in advance of Harper's Ferry but did nothing to stop it. Republican governors refused to honor extradition requests for those of John Brown's party wanted for murder in Virginia. Sixty-eight Republican sitting members of Congress endorsed Helper's book The Impending Crisis, which urged slaves to slit the throats of white people in their sleep.
The irony is that Lincoln had no intention of killing anyone. He had observed that Brown was right in his goals, he had been wrong in his methods. Lincoln, in his first inaugural address endorsed making slavery permanent and removing forever from the federal government the power to abolish it.
Through the magic of partisan politics ("Everybody on the other side is guilty of the worst sins of any of them."), however, in Democratic eyes, every Republican was a murderer and an insurrectionists. Living under a government led by a Republican could not be tolerated. The risks to every man and his family were too great.
I see similar partisan thinking in the U.S. today and it does not make me optimistic.

Name a few of them.
I have lived nearby the Marshall Space Flight Center much of my life. There has been great debate about the Orion launch system and whether it should be be developed here or by private companies. Shelby pushed it through Congress over objections to maintain spending in Alabama. Surely no one believes the Starliner marooned at the Space Station is a great example of NASA's ability to select and manage sub-contractors. We could discuss NASA culture here for days but what would we gain from it?

there you go with those pesky facts again.

Well it’s kinda odd that someone keeps saying “retired CSM” after his retirement as a title but retired as a Master Sergeant because he failed to complete Sergeant Major School and serve the additional two years after the school to keep the rank….

But yeah let’s keep ignoring facts that we don’t agree with
