He is a 5* on some services and I don't think we recruited him hard. We have not had much luck with Thompson players when they get on campus.

It looks like 2nd year in a row we are losing (i.e. more top 10 players going to Auburn) in-state players to Auburn. And this year it is completely lopsided.
Only 2 out of top 10 are currently committed to us, while 6 are either committed or projected to Auburn (4 out of top 5, with N1 Offord to OSU)

Don't worry about who you are not getting. Focus on who you are getting. This is an amazing recruiting class.

This bothers me a little also. However, I do not think it is as vital to get the in state guys as it once was. Especially with the transfer portal being what it is, I think it is more important to recruit nation wide and sometimes outside US borders than it ever has been.

For sure.
But I am looking at 2026 / Alabama and also seeing 4 out of top 10 ( https://247sports.com/season/2026-football/RecruitRankings/?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&State=AL ) are already projected to Auburn.

We need to improve our in-state recruiting. We should not be losing in-state recruits to this less known school.

It was similar under Saban. Rarely got many players in state in one class. You take the best fit. And some of these guys the new staff didn't think are good fits or maybe not all their ranking cracks them up to be. In state is only a cherry on top.

Zion is good example of a guy who the new staff just didn't have a spot for. He's not really a fit when we don't have the jack position. And we got Justin Hill instead so I'm happy. (Basically trading with Ohio state)

There aren't many (except offerd) major players on that list that the new staff recruited heavily that aren't commited to us.

Have those 26 guys signed with the Barn? Relax. Just starting in-state relations with the new staff and as Big said we want the best players regardless of state and that mission has been achieved so far in the 25 class and I expect it to be the same in 26 and moving forward.

You have to understand that Freeze is on a pitch count. First year was a flop. If he does not produce in wins or enthusiasm in the next 24 months, he is gone. Beginning of the end for that guy IMHO.

2025 commits - 22

Alabama - 5
California - 6
Georgia - 3
Mississippi - 2
New Jersey - 1
Florida - 1
Kansas - 1
Ohio - 1
Texas - 2

I like we snatched 3 from Kirby. I think once the Bama recruiters get to know more in-state coaches, we'll see more.

We will lose players to the portal ourself so that will open up spots for us to sign what we need. I would think we wouldn't hold spots but sign as many as we can. Unless the coaches feel there is not a prospect that helps us, then they might hold a scholarship to be used however they decide.

Alabama has 10 players in the top 100. Auburn has 4.
Auburn hasn’t been a top 10 team in 6 seasons and hasn’t even been a top-25 team in three years. They would kill to be competitive in the recruiting battles like Alabama has been for the last 15 years. I would bet Auburn fans would rather be #1 in recruiting with some of the best players in the country has to offered than currently ranked #15 in recruiting with a class made of the Top 10 players in the state of Alabama. Imagine if the roles were reverse, we would here be moaning and wincing to no end on Deboer and his recruiting tactics.
Alabama is a national brand, heck perhaps international as well. Auburn is regional and it shows in their recruiting and fan base. The ultimate goal is to get the best players possible wherever they are from.
Saban took a kid from Germany last cycle is a great example.

And so many from California. It's wild. It's like our players from Mater Dei in Santa Ana are going home and telling their friends, "You gotta go to Bama! It's great!"
