George Kooymans, Golden Earring guitarist and driving force of Europe’s hard rock evolution, dies aged 77

One of the Netherlands’ most prominent guitarists, he leaves behind hits including the driving anthem Radar Love and The Twilight Zone.

Golden Earring guitarist George Kooymans – who wrote the driving anthem Radar Love, and helped spearhead Europe's hard rock evolution – has died aged 77.

Radar Love, which has been covered by wide-ranging acts including REM, Def Leppard, and the Blue Man Group, became the Dutch band's signature hit when it was released in 1973. At the time of writing, it's amassed a staggering 174 million Spotify streams.

“We say goodbye to a great musician and composer whose work extended beyond Golden Earring,” Kooymans’ family say in an official statement. “George was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, but above all, a friend.”

Best driving song ever!

Hulk Hogan at 71.
Really mixed feelings on this because the Wrestler and the Person were completely different.

But he was a Massive Hero for my entire generation in the early to mid 1980’s.

If someone is making a Mount Rushmore of Pro Wrestling then Hulk Hogan is one of the 1st faces on there.

My Mom took me to a WWF House Show in 1988 in Pensacola, FL and it’s one of my better childhood memories of just me and her spending time together. She took pictures of Hogan and Andre and Macho Man etc etc.

I wore the ‘Hulk Rules’ shirt she bought me until it fell apart.

At any rate.

RIP Hulkster
