A-day QB's

jp was more consistent than guillon, but guillon had a couple of nice passes. adam thrash has the slowest release of all the qb's we have.

was rather impressed with the poise of jp even tho he's a true freshman

CMS said yesterday that Guillon is still not completely healed. To me, Guillon looks better now than he did at any point last season. Still inconsistent, but once healthy, he could be a worthy backup.

Wilson looks good for a freshman. He is poised, confident, and has touch and zip. We'll have to see how he looks in the fall after playing baseball for a while.

Oh, and by the way, JPW doesn't like being called "JP". :)

After reviewing the A-Day a couple of times...

I feel really good about JPW. He looked confident and showed good leadership. I have a gut feeling JPW is going to be very successful in his career at Alabama.

Just because Shula called off the horses on defense doesn't both me...it was good for the offense to have some success and the fans need something to cheer about.

With JJ and JB coming on board in the fall I feel good about the QB position.

I thought Jonn Parker threw real well and showed a lot of poise, and team leadership, i was disappointed with his possible lack of height<6ft 1> and his 3 quarter side arm delivery which got a lot of balls batted back at him. I am confident that experience will only make him better however. Im glad that spring games can help build confidence in young qbs, and this includes Guillon, but the jury is still out .

It seems difficult to have a football passing motion and baseball throwing motion at the same time. A 3/4 baseball delivery on the football field will work best if you're over 6-3" and behind a professional offensive line. Many pro qb's have had that style and did well.

John Parker will do well, as long as he has protection. IMHO

JPW has QB "smarts"...

I thought JP looked good but I hope we don't get deep enough that MG or AT have to start. Any thoughts?

It was clear during the A-day game that JPW was going through progressions better than any QB I remember at Alabama...He understands this type of system, having been coached by Probst and has enough ability to take advantage of it. The size issue seemed to be countered by his ability to KNOW EVERY RECEIVER'S Pattern and find the "spot" for the play when needed, even if eye contact wasn't made...this is what will make him a GREAT QB down the road, and he will be the second place QB this fall. Brodie, due to the velocity of his passes, can get away with "visual" passing, i.e., following receivers with the eyes, then zipping the ball in...this is not the "proper" way of doing it, at least most of the time, but results are results! IF Brodie had the "smarts" of JPW, we would have a true monster on our hands! I can only hope that Brodie is being pushed a bit by JPW so far! I've been quite impressed with the freshman...

I agree, too, that MG is MILES better at this point than at ANY point last year...once fully healed, he will be a major force/competitor as well...but I still don't think he has the mind of JPW...

My opinions after reviewing the scrimmage a few times...the future is getting better, and is coming sooner rather than later ;)

Rusty

When everyone gets back to practice in August, all will be a little rusty. Brodie probably more than most, but he knows the offense and knows the game. By 2 weeks of 2 a-days he will be fine.

Guillon pleasantly surprised me. If I had to rate them based solely on A-Day, Wilson and Guillon would probably be tied. Wilson has better long-term potential, but he has got to get out of his habit of throwing three-quarters, which he gets from making throws from third to first in baseball.

The big picture is that Wilson is essentially in his first year of college ball, while Guillon is in his fourth, and they look very similar. If Wilson keeps getting better, he'll be special.
