I was just wandering if anyone else thinks are D is overrated stats wise anyway. We have sit here in the last two games and gave up over 200 yards rushing per game and the the oposition has only passed 7-12 ,and SC thru only if I remember 10 to 12 passes and both passed for small amounts of yards and still beat us but controlled the clock against us to the most extent. but when they passed it was pretty successfull , meaning they got what they needed which is really the only thing where missing in our passing game without Brodie. What I'm trying to say is how many yards are we going to give up when we play someone who is rushing for a lot of yards against us but throws the ball 25 to 30 times. I'm just a little worried . Joe kines is a great guy from what everyone says but his bend but don't break style of D is not going to work in the SEC. We give up big plays when the othe teams want it. The last to games the other team has not had to pass much cause they have ran it so well. I've just been reading replies about are D about how great its been playing when I have not seen it. We do fly to the ball and tackle well. Our first three games were against cup cakes so it was hard to gauge. Just want to see what others might think. Great to be back on the board . Thank you

stallings did both bend and don't break and stuff them D. we won a lot both ways. we have to keep points off the board. Our D seems to be adept at this. It would be nice to keep the ball and score occasionally too.

People don't want to hear it, but Bill Oliver's vaunted defenses leaned more towards the bend-but-don't-break philosophy than to a blitz-all-the-time scheme. The '93 Sugar Bowl featured a lot of things we didn't use during the regular season.

Kines' defense has been very, very good this year. Despite having a suspect secondary, Alabama is ranked 3rd in pass defense in the entire NATION as of today (Oct. 4). The Tide leads the conference in total defense.

Remember from the past two games that two or three of the opponents' touchdowns came after we had turned the ball over deep in our own territory, either through turnovers or on downs. And remember that Kines is doing this with a thin defensive unit, plus now without Juwan Garth for a couple of weeks.

Alabama has a lot of problems. Kines isn't one of them at this point.

In reply to pass stats, we were beat at the end of both games (last two) and the other team ran the clock out without trying to score.

We had played very well in both first halves, but seemed worn out in the 4th quarters. The seasoned coaches on the other teams did not call many pass plays and took advantage of the run.

Anthony Madison has gotten so very much better, too.

pass defense and being thin on D

I think our D is the side of the ball where were least thin at accept on the D-line. Otherwise Utah St nearly passed for 200 yards and the last two games they have not had to pass. We will see after the Southern Miss game how good the pass D is , but you are right we are young and 12 scholarship player short. Someone said that with Stallings that his defenses played a more bend don't break style , that was in his last few years not in the early years. I would just like to see more bump and run and man to man D. But we are playing better than last lear somewht . Thanks for the replies
