About Dave Rader, help me out here?

When was Dave Rader the coach at Tulsa? What type of offense did he have? Lastly, What kind of offfense production did he have?

Thanks for your help.

He's put more QB's in the NFL than any other coach in the state of OK...there is no doubt he's a great QB coach.

I have to disagree with some of the posters on here. Dave Rader is an excellent developer of QB's. I played against Tulsa during the early 90's and Rader's QB's and WR's were top notch (see Gus Ferrotte & Chris Penn). There is no doubt that he can develop talent. Whether he is being allowed full access to call the plays now is the question. I for one say Rader stays in the capacity of QB coach and a new OC gets brought in. BTW, the offense he used at Tulsa was very similar to what we run now. JMHO.

Anyone want to discuss what Dave Rader was doing before Shula hired him?

I think he was selling computers. But I am not sure that your point is valid. Tommy Tubberville was managing a restaurant when he got hired by Ole Miss (I think it was ole miss).

There are many times that coaches get fired and the right situation isn't out there. So they do whatever job they can to take care of their families until the right situation comes along!

What was Butch Davis doing prior to getting the job at NC????

Excellent point. Rader is a good coach.

i'm pretty sure he got a little severance from the browns when he was shown the door. your point is valid though, unless a coach is out of it for 10-15 years the game isn't going to pass them by.

Ask some people in Oklahoma what they thought about Rader. He did take Tulsa to two bowl games, beat Oklahoma, beat aTm, beat Oklahoma St.fairly regular. His record at Tulsa wasn't stellar but he had some good success at a place where football was sometimes an afterthought.

Well he did say after the auburn game last year that we lost because of poor starting field position on the first three possessions. :eek2: That told me what I needed to know about him as a coach.

I was of the opinion that we lost becasue we were physically dominated by a team that was ready to play ball. But that's just my opinion and I am sure that Coach Rader knows better.:cool2:

and you base this on what?

He has a reputation in the business as being a very good QB coach and good offensive mind.

Can you tell me the last time Bama had a sophomore QB who could throw the ball like JPW?

I sat with two LSU alums who are close to the LSU program last week and they said JPW was the best QB, by far, they had seen all year. Bama had about 80 more yards offense than any other team LSU has faced this year but I am sure this had nothing to do with coaching.

The misdirection wheel route for a touchdown to KD was another terrible play call too.

I don't know anything factually about Rader other than what I have seen from him here. From many folk's opinions he has a very imaginative and explosive offensive design. I can't speak to that because I never watched Tulsa while he was there, nor do I watch them now. All I know is that when he was hired to come here he was out of football. Now there are more than one reasons to be out of football, but I know what the most prevalent one is. That is something that can't be argued.

Best I can tell, he has done a good job here as QB's coach. I think that is about all anyone can say unless you get into speculation or heresay.

He was and still is well repected as a coach in these parts. The sports radio show here in OKC still talk highly of him. I got to see some of the Tulsa games while he was coaching and they always seemed to have a few "out of the box" plays.

I would say CMS has put the conservative thumb print on the play calling. Of course that has never bothered me I liked the way CGS called plays. However if CDR were given the play calling responibilities in full I think it would be a little more wide open.
