To echo CrimsonChuck. What has Al Gore done to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?

You can argue the merits of him receiving some sort of science or environmental award, but one for peace? Come on.

nope. im not even going to argue with whatever reason you present. i simply find him to be an arrogant and hypocritical POS that I have zero respect for on any level. So Im just curious as to the reason why you feel a human being like that should be celebrated. The only reason I have heard up to this point was that he made people a lot more aware of the environment. I can accept that. I think the movie was a classic example of propaganda and brainwashing designed for the lowest intelligence of the population but I can still accept that overall it got people talking about it more. I dont see why that warrants a nobel prize but it is at least a reason. I am simply wondering why you feel he is deserving of the award.

I don't see that the "debate," as it were, is about global warming, but rather a case of asking the valid question of what Gore's global warming crusade has to do with the promotion of peace? As someone noted, it would seem more fitting for him to receive a Nobel for science, but then we'd have to debate the scientific validity of his assertions, and then it would become a global warming debate. There have been some who have alleged that this is why Gore was awarded the Peace prize rather than Physics, because his assertions do not hold up to scientific scrutiny. But that's a separate debate from talking about what An Inconvenient Truth has to do with the promotion of peace.

For some years now, my own opinion has been that the people giving out the peace award nowadays are a bunch of elitist Euro-flakes, and that the award lost relevance a good while ago. (I'm speaking of the peace prize specifically, not physics, literature, chemistry, medicine, or physiology, although I do have my suspicions about the people who choose the literature laureates).

Simple, for one, unchecked, GW will eventually cause a rise in sea level and coastal areas where hundreds of million people live will eventually look like NO after Katrina. That will cause economic, political and social chaos.

No! No! Too much slime in this man to deserve anything. The only thing he did was devise a gimmick to make him rich.

i guess what shocks me is that there are some politicians that i regard as just complete slimeballs that other people have respect for. I can disagree with politics and still like a guy, but I am amazed that some people genuinely cannot see some of these politicians for how slimy they are. A few years ago I said I would never vote for someone like Edwards. I had more than one person ask me why and I said it was so obvious the guy is complete slime and I could never respect him. A few years later he gets caught with his baby mama and hides in a hotel bathroom from the national enquirer reporters of all people. on top of that his wife was going through chemo. The same friends were shocked, shocked i tell you, at how they could have possibly ever respected that man. Is there just a lot of people that are oblivious to obvious character flaws in politicians? Or do they not care bc the politician happens to be a dem or rep.

Two things that instantly make me lose all respect for a person is hypocrisy and arrogance. I believe those two qualities are things that the Goracle has in immense amounts.
