Alabama Basketball Roster Tracker 2026-2027

CNO says they have a plan. What else is there to do but trust the man? He's earned it!

I guess we can continue to ask, "What if?"

What if Hollaway doesn't make it back?

What if Allen stays in the draft?

Two huge questions! Not knowing how the new/young guys will respond, we are talking about 30 points a game we'll need to replace if they aren't back. And that's not even considering what a "leader" Allen was!
Allen is likely coming back.
Hollaway probably will be back with team... Just gotta let it play out. I expect this to be resolved before end of summer... or at least before October...

Positionless basketball has clear limits.

We need two people to handle the ball and run the offense. At the moment, we have none. We also are short on pure shooters.

Those are two fairly gaping holes in our Positionless plans. Last year, our portal moves left us in a weakened state that became painfully obvious during the season.

Nate says he has a plan. Great, I love our coach. But let’s hope his plan works better this time around.

Valid points at every turn. Just because there’s a plan doesn’t mean it’s a great plan. Agree that Coach Oats has earned trust, but in today’s NIL world plans w/o a major cash flow may be futile. Personally, I think we pivot to the euros if anything goes awry with Allen or Holloway.

That's fair as well. Every system out there known to coaches has it limits... and I kind disagree on short on pure shooters. Last few years, I've heard that and yet it's always someone who steps up.

I think everyone just want this wrapped up and be done and have guards in the place. But you have to trust Oats... I think he has earned it. The man has led the basketball team to the tournament 6 times out of 7 years he has been at Alabama.

I would think he knows what he's doing... He's doing great job with roster the last 4 years, He has constantly got better at building roster and changing things each year. Sometime things doesn't work out for things that was out of control, so I don't know why you made the last statement, " Let's hope his plan works better this time around."

Because last year’s plan didn’t work IF our goal is to compete for a championship every year.

Every single member of the portal class came nowhere near meeting Nate’s hype. The question remains: was this a blanket miss by our staff, which I don’t believe, or was it simply the best group Alabama could afford?

Jump ahead to this year. Some of our big-pocketed rivals have rebuilt their entire rosters. We on the other hand still don’t have a point guard. Given the new financial reality, Is this our new normal?

Between your two exchanges, there's something at play here that needs to be mentioned. "Success" for us prior to NIL was "make the tournament every year". From yesteryear's standards, Nate Oats is probably the best coach we've ever had. However, in this new age the bar has been moved. "Success" in the age of NIL means that we can/should expect to make deep NCAA runs every year with maybe an off year occasionally. Last year was that off year... primarily because of the failure of our transfer portal class. And right now, without a proven ball handler on our roster, there's a gaping hole. While we might play positionless basketball... Oats has never gone into a season without a point guard. That tells us something about what he believes is needed. If we enter next season without a true PG on the roster, it's troubling. Not saying we couldn't overcome it, but it is troubling.

There is a reason you are on the roster at Bucknell or Tarleton State usually. And we found out that reason last year.

Usually, the guys you need to win a championship are already apart of good teams. We may not have the money to pry them away.

For the most part you are correct but Michigan is hoisting up a nice trophy thanks to a player from UAB. It isn´t so much as where you are coming from as it is how much money do you have to get the top targets in the portal. Remember this, high school recruiting is an inexact science but portal signings are much more accurate as you have had time to understand the players strengths and weaknesses against high level competition.

Yes, you take away the UAB transfer and they are not the same team. Still good, but probably not as dominant.

I think where you play applies more to football than basketball, or especially baseball.

One player can matter in football too...but that's typically even limited to the QB position. But in basketball, one player who is dominant will matter more with fewer players in the equation.

Regarding the recent general discussion, I disagree that the current (2026) roster is not a good shooting roster.

I personally think it could be just as good with the addition of a couple of the new players in Fielder and Cloer. Cloer is going to blow up in CNO's system!!! Plus, I think 2 or the 3 new true freshmen are going to splash as well!

But if Allen and/or Hollaway return, I believe there's no question we'll be a better shooting team.

Per the PG discussion, either CNO strongly believes Holloway will be able to return OR he knows he can plug and play a Euro player. I think it's probably the former rather than the latter.

I think he probably thinks both Allen and Holloway will return and between the two of them, we can probably manage the PG position.

IMO, we don't want Holloway having to play point exclusively because he's a more impactful shooter off point. But I will say his passing skills drastically improved this past year. And a CNO PG has to be able to drive and pass effectively! To me, that's the biggest wildcard in bringing in a Euro player. He may be a good point guard, but CNO asks his PGs to really thrive in non-conventional dribble drive passing.
