Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic football game will leave Mobile, move to Montgomery - al.com
MOBILE, Alabama — After nearly 25 years as one of Mobile’s marquee sporting events, the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic is leaving for Montgomery, multiple sources have told the Press-Register, and moving to Montgomery.

The annual high school all-star football game will be played at the Cramton Bowl in December — the first time the game has been played away from Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium since the game’s inception in 1988.

Crampton Bowl is getting a major over-haul. That has to be a key selling point for this decision. I wonder why they don't alternate the game from one year in Mississippi (Oxford or Starkville or Hattiesburg) to the next in Alabama (Troy or Auburn or Tuscaloosa). AHSAA decided to do that with the Super 6, and I like it better.

First, just for the record, there is no 'p' in Cramton Bowl, never has been. As for the game, it's okay that they're moving it up here and all, but it doesn't excite me very much. Perhaps that will change with the game being in my back yard.

On one thing I agree with RTR, I've always been surprised that Mississippi continues to let the game be played solely in Alabama. I realize sponsorship money has something (okay maybe everything) to do with it, but you'd think somebody in MS would be willing to step up in order to get the game over there once in awhile.

One thing I don't necessarily agree with RTR about, the Super 6 being played in Tuscaloosa and Auburn. Those venues are just too big. A crowd of a thousand for the 1A finals is absolutely lost in a 101,000 seat arena. Even a 15,000 crowd for the 6A game looks miniscule. What Montgomery should do is pursue hosting the Super 6. The new and improved Cramton Bowl will still seat in excess of 20,000, a crowd of 15,000 will make the place look, and feel, full. If people know, or think, the game may sellout, it would likely increase pregame sales. If I were playing, I'd rather play in front of a full house more than, when I turned 50 and fat, to just be able to say I played at BDS or JHS, but that's just me.

I don't know why I thought it was Crampton. I'm interested in seeing how the new Cramton Bowl looks. Sounds like it is going to be nice.

I see your point about the Super 6. If Mayor Strange and company can get it to come to Montgomery, good for them. That'd be good for the city.

Considering Mobile's geographical proximity to Mississippi it makes more sense than Montgomery. Cramton Bowl may be updated but I doubt it is any nicer than Ladd Stadium. Unfortunately I think this is simply a signal this game will be out of business very soon. They moved it from June to December trying to get more attention, and now this move it looks like the final stages before it is shut down for good.

Much . I wish I had the ability to post a few pics . My only hope the elevator gets an overhaul as well because railed press box steps are no fun . Especially at about a 60 degree angle :p_eek:
