It was good to read that Luther Davis came to the game just to support some of his future teammates! That's the kind of support and camaraderie we need amongst our players and that's certainly a very positive sign. Can't wait to get them on campus! :BigA:

Most definitely - that kind of camaraderie is why this incoming class will be very special, I think.

Any news on Griffin qualifying or not? Lett is a sure thing right?

Man, can't wait till next season!!

No, I can't ever remember it being this lopsided. It's usually closer than this year's was.
MS talent was low last year, as a whole. The better ones had little chance of qualifying, too.

Couldn't agree more.

Griffin is taking the ACT June 9th, I think. Lett should be in. However, there was an article published a month ago about him retaking the ACT. Murphy is still a big ?, as is Ricks. Hanks was close at last check.

We'll know by who doesn't show up this week. If they don't show, they still have work to do or we'll hear of enrollment somewhere else sometime after the 9th.

WOW!!!:eek2: I watched the next Great Alabama Linebacker last night. There were numerous athletes on the field, but one stood out: Rolando McLain. I was sitting on the Mississippi side in the first half, and several coaches from West Lauderdale, Wayne County, and others all mentioned how impressive he looked, and played. This game was won at the LOS where Alabama just had better players across the board. It could have been much worse.

BTW, I hope we didn't make a mistake letting Larry Smith get out of state. He is very impressive showing a good arm, and even better decision making. Time will tell I guess.

Thanks for the post. I heard Smith had gained some weight and is up around 200. Can you add to that? I'll still take Fanuzzi right now, but I wish Smith all the success in the world at Vandy, just like I do Nickson......just not when they play Bama. :biggrin2:

Thanks for the informative reply, RTO - you really stay on top of things and I appreciate that.

I hope Griffin makes it in - I think he could be an impact player, especially on short yardage downs. 230 lbs. and runs a 4.4 - give me more of that.

Will Murphy be off to Hargrave if he doesn't make it in?

Yeah, you're absolutely right, it was one of the shallowest pools of talent I can remember Mississippi having over the last several years.

I really hope Griffin and Murphy can make it (Murphy especially). I believe they'd both see the field plenty their freshman year, Murphy obviously more so than Griffin considering our obvious need at DT. If not I'm hopeful they both could go the prep school route rather than JUCO.

I think Alabama made a mistake by not signing Larry Smith. I know that it's not that simple... what if he only wanted to play QB (which I think was the case), we are pretty well stocked at QB and had a relatively early commitment from Robert Marve, etc. I think Smith is one of those guys that you just have to get onto the field.

Only time we would see Larry Smith as a starter unless Nickson gets hurt would be in the SEC Championship game.

Well I talked to a friend of mine that played DT for the MS team later that night after the game and when I texted him the only reply I got was "we got smashed". We talked a little bit more and he seemed to be pretty content with how he played considering he's just a juco signee going up against an all DI OLine but he said AL could not have dominated the game anymore and they just knocked everybody off the ball every play. I know MS didn't have much to work with this year especially with people like Chris Strong not playing but this sounds really good for the state of Alabama.

Larry played B-Ball after the season was over so that impacted his weight. Since that season finished he has been hiting the weights pretty hard, and has put on some muscle. I would say 200 sounds about right. I don't think he is going to be an All Star but he is a good kid with the right type of attitude, and good ability. In other words the kind of player that should fit right into Vandy!

And just think Gentry, Corley, Vlachos, and several others didn't play. So it could have been even worse ;)

Alabama's future looks bright.

Crump impresses at All-Star practice
Among the more intense competitors on the Alabama squad, Crump said, were his future Tide teammates on the defensive line who Crump has been practicing against on a daily basis.

"I go against Josh Chapman and Alfred McCullough all day. It's cool because they push me as much as I push them. We are all getting after it and at the same time we're having a good time and enjoying it. I'm expecting nothing but the best out of these guys the next four years at Alabama."
