Game Thread: Alabama vs Xavier

Been watching but too busy to get on the computer. Xavier's offense was bad early in the game and Bama's hasn't been much all game. Bama players make too many goofy mistakes and of course, struggles in shooting.

That was a good offensive foul call by the ref; they often miss that one.

yeah- hopefully we will have a better showing tomorrow... My guess is that we play USC (Wichita St is beaten up but i still think they win)

I thought I liked Austin's shooting form but noticed this game that even though it is a pretty smooth motion, he does not square his shoulders with the basket. That would be hard to change at this point. Maybe he'll start to drop them in soon.

As bad as Alabama's shooting was and with all the turnovers, the big difference in this game was rebounding: 47 to 31. I guess missing shots gives the other team a better opportunity to collect rebounds though since defensive rebounds are easier to pick up on average. Turnovers were even (18) but many of Bama's were player mistakes and errors that could have been avoided with a little smarter play.

Painful offense to watch. Just cannot shoot. How did this team score 100 points against LaFayette? They must play no defense at all.

Bama has a long hard row to hoe to get back to playing big time ball.

You're right. But we are getting back there. Good recruiting class coming in and we know Coach Johnson knows how to coach them up. Brighter days are ahead. We knew this would be a hard season to endure. RTR.

That is maybe the most ridiculous post concerning the ref's that I have ever read. You should read your posts before hitting submit.xavier is light years better than Alabama- ref's had nothing to do with this loss. Truly comical.
The refs are a joke! We get within 6 inches of a player and get called for a foul, they commit assault and battery and the refs swallow their whistle. I'd love to see Avery show a little more emotion and go after the refs. It is a a joke that they are outshooting us at the line 18-2. The play where they had the 5-2 after blocking the lob left 3 BAMA players on the ground... Bull crap at least one of them wasn't shoved!

Good news is down only 3. Bad news, gonna be hard to be Xavier with the 3 officials in their pocket... ESPN/Disney wants them to win and move on and the refs hired by the tournament (Disney) have a duty to do what they want... If not, they won't get to do this tourney again.

Yeah- they def didn't do us any favors. Not sure that it really mattered in the end but there were quite a few hack jobs in the paint that they ignored on Xavier. Oh well, this team has some work to do. I know we scored 100 plus points in our last game which I can't even really conceive after watching today's game. We just couldn't score today- that's about the gist of it

Well I knew that we were not as bad as we looked against Dayton. Conversely we weren't as good as we looked against ULL. We have virtually no inside game, so we'll be out rebounded and out scored in the paint in practically every game this year. Until we can develop some sort of interior presence, we'll have to rely on our outside shooting. Anyone that's played bb knows that can be really inconsistent. Some nights you can't seem to throw it in the ocean, and some nights you can't miss. We have to many unforced errors and our FT shooting must improve. Other than these "correctable" things, the team is about what I expected. We'll hover around .500 this season IMO, but at least we seem to have some idea offensively. Fans just need to be patient, this season is gonna be a roller coaster ride. RTR

In the end it probably didn't... However, had we had 18 FT in the first half to 2 for them we might have been up 10 at the break and made the 2nd half interesting.

Refs had a lot to do with the 1st half.... Had we gotten a few calls we have the lead at the half. If we get a 16 FT advantage we are up double digits.

Just couldn't make any shots, namely 3's! We just dont have the shooter's to hang with teams like that. Loss hurt, I wanted to do better but oh well. Im fine with the patience thing, but losses like that will be hard to take. Just gotta keep at it!! Roll Tide!

I am one to shy away from blaming officials, but I thought the whistle was uneven today. That's basketball, one of the most poorly officiated game in all sports. You have to overcome. We don't have the team that can do it, right now.
