On Andrew Bone's facebook page, he says that Alfy Hill has narrowed his list to Bama and UNC. He also says that Alfy plans to announce this week. I don't know if this link will work or not, but here it goes:
Andrew Bone | Facebook

CS, do you have any insight on Bama's chances? I would think our chances are good since Beasley didn't commit.

Not CS, but the one thing that scares me about that is going up against Butch Davis. IMO, Davis is CNS' only equal in recruiting.
Just look at those teams he fielded in Miami. The amount of talent on those Miami teams was down right frightening!

Alabaster, AL.
If it is UNC vs. Alabama, it will be UNC. Bank on it.
Why? :) Not flaming you, just asking. :)

According to all the reports I've read Alabama has been in good shape with Hill. Between Keenan Allen, Gabe King and Alfy Hill, I think we are going to get two of the three. I feel really good about Keenan Allen, between King and Hill I'm not sure which of the two we will get, but I think we get one of the two.

A couple of posters here on Tide Fans said before Victor Beasley's press conference last week that the Alabama coaches had cooled on Beasley. Just a hunch, but I'm wondering if they cooled on Beasley because they like our chances with Alfy Hill or Gabe King. Hill and Beasley are comparable in size with King being the bigger of the three, but all three look like a Jack backer to me.

I certainly have a lot of respect for Butch Davis, but if Hill wants to go where football is king it's a no brainer not to mention the opportunity to play in the SEC. No disrespect intended toward North Carolina. :)

The kid was considered a Heel lock for months. Of course, Beasley was considered an Alabama shoo-in, too. Maybe there's an inverse symbiosis at play here. The Alabama lock goes elsewhere to clear space for the UNC lock at Alabama.

Something led to us slow-playing a great prospect like VB. It would be considered a big upset around here if Alfy turns down Chapel Hill, but we obviously have at least a puncher's chance.

Butch Davis has done in North Carolina what Coach Saban has done in Alabama. Remember, Chapel Hill is right here in NC, and most likely, Alfy Hill's family is pushing him very hard in the direction of playing for a quality program close enough for them to get to see them play.

My personal take is that King is a much better prospect here, especially since he has some sort of difficulty with NCHSAA. I am not sure what it is, but I think I read somewhere that he might not be able to play next year in any of our public schools. If someone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

So is the feeling in NC that Alabama has a better shot at King than Hill?
Yes.

There's something obviously going on with Alfy. But he's from a small town a few miles from the coast, a long way away from west Alabama.

The excitement around Davis' recruiting continues to build. Between him and O'Brien at State, the days of Tennessee or FSU walking in at the last minute and ordering from the menu have ended.

That said, there isn't and will never be a wall around a state of almost 9 million folks (and a growing number of fine high school football players).

I don't know why Allen and King seem headed out of state. But for Alfy Hill to join them would be a big, big blow to the two biggest programs.

Could happen. Odds say it won't.

He was attending the wrong school, staying with a family member who was not his legal guardian.

North Carolina reformed and toughened its residency rules last year after an embarrassing scandal that involved several schools in the Charlotte area. Teams had to forfeit seasons and coaches were fired and suspended. Dozens of kids were declared ineligible because they lied about where they lived to play for the best teams. Sometimes they did it on their own. Sometimes coaches helped them.

Gabe King is probably the biggest fish caught in that net. Not sure if he was gaming the system or didn't understand the rules, but as of now he can't play for a public school anywhere in the state because he was found to have been ineligible all of last year.

He'll pop up in a private school somewhere. Last time I checked in his family was appealing.

I believe Hill is in a somewhat similar situation that Vic Beasley was in, if it were up to him he'd wind up at Alabama, but I believe his family wants to see him at UNC. Of course with our seeming cooling off on Beasley it likely means good things for whoever the staff had ahead of Mr. Beasley, and Hill could certainly be a candidate for that situation. It'll be interesting to see what happens, I could see it going either way.

I see this as being similar to a blue chip basketball player in Alabama being wooed by a "basketball-ACC" school. Sure he could stay and play for the hometown school and have a fine career, etc. but the chances of playing for a championship are small.

The same factors may be at play here. His chances of playing for the National Championship will be much higher with the Tide than with the "Heels. :BigA:

we have more than a punchers chance, and it s do to 2 reasons..

1)Coach Sal
2)The position we wont him at, alfy is a phenomenal football player but is small 4 a DE, not to mention NC is stacked there. he loves Bama and the idea of playing the JACK.

im NOT going to make any promises, but i would understand if someone else did!!!!! ;)

Distance and family and in-state pull are all going against us. We clearly have the kid's ear. If he commits this week, our odds go up. And, indeed, Coach Sal's big-time name recognition throughout the Carolinas could be a big key.

Hill is certainly not small for a DE prospect coming out of high school. It seems pretty apparent that we're recruiting him for the Jack, but he'd be plenty big enough for an end in a 4-3 scheme, and he'll only get bigger. jmho

Can Saban and Sal overcome distance and family? I remain cautiously optimistic. He says he will announce next week but I have heard that before from others. We shall see.

I've heard that one factor in our favor is that he would have to take a fourth math class and also another foreign language in order to qualify for UNC...

Those darn teachers and stuff.. ;)

On the other hand, having a second language, in my case Canadian, has come in handy on more than one occasion. :biggrin2:
Mind you I'm not quite fluent..
