Andre Smith Update

Also wants to major in Business Management (plus for us) and be a part of FCA (also a plus for us).
Learning from the Razorbacks, look for the announcement from UF this weekend that Tim Tebow's father will move into the FCA director's position at UF.

It does make me nervous him visiting Florida. Not that he is a lock for us by any means its just that whatever that Mayer is selling or giving down in Florida alot of players are buying or taking.

Like someone else said, Andre would just be one more Five star guy to LSU, Florida, or USC. He would be forgotten the moment he signs. but at Bama he would be the crowning jewel of not only this class but pretty much the last 4 put togather. And it took LSU overtime for their 5 star guys to beat our 3 star guys, and we all know the beating we delivered to Florida. And I got news for them, don't count next year for revenge just yet, I'm not sold on this Meyer's coaching ability at all. They were all just as sold on Ron Zook at one time.

As for Tebow he has set himself a bar so high I doubt he will ever reach the lofty expectations he has set for himself. He's already got a bulls eye painted all over him and every DL in the SEC is licking their chops. Especially since Mayers spread "panic" attack resulted in over 30 sacks of Leak this year.

A guy on Gatorbait.com's message board swears up and down that Andre will not only visit UF this weekend but will committ to them as well. Since no information has been released I really don't know where he gets this from. Considering he picked them from a host of teams wanting his last visit there chances aren't that great. He also was considering, or still may be, not visiting anyone this weekend. Gator fans tend to think that this is a Percy Harvin situation, in that he is a fan of the other school (FSU in that case) involved but chooses to them. First of all, his famliy members are huge supporters of the Tide and Mike Shula. They are 50 miles away on top of that. Unlike Harvin who was from Virginia I believe.
I'm really getting tired of these cocky gators. They tend to forget Oct 1, 2005.
In the end Andre will wear Crimson. I usually don't talk trash over these things, but the way the gator fans have been acting I'm gonna make them eat crow.

The impression I got (from the 2 FL boards I read) was that most FL fans feel that AS is a Bama lock. They are glad to get a visit and a shot at turning him, but know it would be a major, major upset to get him. Most agree that we have no shot, but point to other cases (like Harvin) where the obvious favorite was not chosen. The only reason I could see FL having any chance is a strong FCA, AS hitting it off with other recruits like Tebow or Johnson, UM making agood impression with the family - things like that. I think AS will go to Bama but hope that he has a good experience at FL and gives us some PR for the future - similar to what TT did for Bama.

I don't think we forget about the game this year, just don't know that it has that much impact on recruiting.

Can't see Andre fitting in with all those ego's they have at UF.

I think most would say that we have a shot at anyone who visits, not a lock. There are plenty of similar posts here about AL. Perhaps SOME of the egos you refer to are nothing more than confidence.

Sorry for all the posts - should have combined them all into one. I think AS would not get lost in the shuffle at FL. He is obviously good enough to compete for a starting position next year with FL losing 4 from the OL and would be a great anchor opposite Johnson for the next few years. Tebow will not win the NC every year as people seem to expect but I don't see any reason why he cannot be a major contributor to the team. Obviously Shula saw something in him. As for the bullseye - FL QB's (or players in general) should expect that.

Obviously if he is half as good as the press he will be a major contributor, But Tebow isn't like recruits from the past. he pratically had his own TV network while still in high school. My guess is every Defender he played against saw it or heard about it and every one of them is going to want to add a notch in his belt with Tebow's name on it, even more so with a school like Florida where arrogance and smack talk are required classes for freshman.

By the way, hope you enjoyed your short lived enjoyment of Chad Jackson.

Just curious, do you not have any Florida friends, why are you hanging out here?

I can see your point about everyone knowign TT and trying to make a good or painful impression on him, but tend to think SEC defenses bring it that way no matter who is on he other side. JMO

I thoguht CJ was a tremendous player and while I wish he would have stayed around do not fault anyone for leaving for the NFL as a potential early round pick. While it hurts to lose himthis year I think it is good PR for the university.

While I do browse through several FL boards, I find it refreshing to get occasional non-biased info and opinions. They do provide a lot of good information, but I also enjoy seeing what others think. Why here? I picked this site because I live in Birmingham and most of my friends and coworkers are either AL or AU fans. My wife and the inlaws are all die hard Bama fans. Before registering for this site I checked with the moderator to make sure it was ok for a Gator fan to be here and was given the ok (provided I was respectful - of course). I hope that you and others will find that I have been respectful even when offering FL viewpoints that may not be popular.

Ditto that, Gator has always been a classy poster. It is refreshing to have fans of other schools with honest discourse and not talking smack. Many of us venture to opponents boards and we expect to be treated well if we behave ourselves, we should respond in kind.

I agree. Gator has been nothing but class and I've enjoyed reading his posts. It is rare to have visitors from rival schools that actually have something to bring to the table other than smack. I think it says a lot for this board, the admins, & the mods that we have folks like Gator hang around and discuss football w/ us.

well I'll grant you've been a respectful poster and all. Just understand I LOVE Alabama, and hate everybody team we play. If your here I'm going to give you a measure of heck. Its not personal, your here, your a Gator, your going to catch it, If I don't its only because I think your a whimp and can't handle it, so in reality If I'm busting your chops its only because of some microscopic amount of respect, and because of the afore mentioned reasons.

None of that of course applies to a Tennessee fan, they are going to get it with both barrells and there is NO respect involved. If the earth opened up and swallowed Knoxville and everybody wearing orange it would be not soon enough for me. We could beat them for the next 30 years streight and it wouldn't be enough to cool my digust at their pathetic crooked, butt ugly burnt orange program.

So next to them your actually ok.

Well said - I enjoy giving rival fans a hard time also and would love to get into it much more but this is an AL board so I keep a lot to myself. It's much more fun in person where you get to see their reaction anyway.

This is not now or ever has been a smack board. Anyone on our board who doesn't understand this will find themselves in the doghouse. End of discussion.

I take that to mean that you're not quite ready to develop that close friendship with CPF any time soon???

Andre Smith to visit the Gators

I have to wonder if he will be a strong lean to the Gators after this visit. TT will probably try and talk Andre into joining the ranks in Fla. Not sure what to make of this....

Thoughts?

So Florida has 28 commitments thus far. I suppose they only have room for about 8 more. Do you suppose Alabama can pick up a handful of their rejects. :conf3:

Just to add a little anxiety to the pot, read somewhere that Andre has a Grandmother in, or around, L.A., that is trying to get him to play at USC! :rolleye2:
