Question: any believers in mythical creatures?

I'll give an example I had that has me atleast wondering. We went to visit some of my wifes' family, our family and my wifes' two sisters and part of their families. Stayed in a Bed and Breakfast. My wife and myself were laying in bed watching TV while our son was watching a movie on his DVD player at the end of the room. We had the ceiling fan going and it ran normal, no wobble or anything like that. All of the sudden the strings that hung down to change speeds on fan and to turn off lights without turning off fan slapped against the lights and swung back and forth like someone slapped them. That is the only thing that happened that night but while visiting her family the next day they mentioned that the place was haunted. Nobody mentioned what happened, I didn't even say anything about what happened right after because I knew my wife wouldn't sleep if she thought the place was haunted. I know this isn't anything big and doesn't prove anything but there isn't anybody who can explain what caused this to happen without me shooting it down. Nobody was close to the fan and the fan wasn't unbalanced so the strings hung straight down all night except in that one instance.

I'm convinced that I'm convinced. Yeah, personal experience.
I would be interested in hearing about that. An associate of mine experienced poltergeist type activity in his house in old Homewood in the 90's that was classic noisy ghost behavior in every sense of the word. This eventually led to he and his family which consisted of his wife and three young daughters to living in one room while waiting to sell the home.

It included phantom noises, piano playing, (no piano in the home) slapping and shoving that seemed to get worse by the day. I do not know how soon it started after they moved in to this large expensive house off of Lakeshore Drive near Samford but do know it went on for several months. I found out from another person who had worked even more closely with him (home owner) than I and was told that the family was not only troubled but embarrased as well by what was happening.
When they approached the previous owner and real estate agent about it they were told that this sort of thing (haunting)did not have to be disclosed by the seller. They too had experienced similar events.

I've never asked my friend about it as he does not know that I am aware of what happened.

Looks like a lot of folks watched the Mermaid show on The Planet Channel..

Here's The Link..CLICK ME
i will send that link to my friend and his wife. I watched this crap at their house and his wife kept getting angry at us for making sarcastic jokes throughout the show. She truly believed it was real. I don't like her anyway so this will be a real treat for me.

When Mrs. Reb and I lived in South Carolina, we were renting a house from an elderly couple. The man once warned me that his wife thought the house was haunted. I didn't think much of it until late one night I heard music coming from one end of the house. The music sounded like it was from the "Big Band" era, maybe back in the 1930's or 40's.
So I got up out of bed and walked through the house trying to locate the source of the music. I finally thought I had isolated it to the attic, so up I went. When I got up there, nothing.. pure silence... I went back downstairs and didn't hear the music for some time.
Weeks later, I heard it again. I listened to the music for a while, and it actually sounded like pretty good music. Finally, I got up out of bed and went back to the attic. I thought, "Why not?". So I said out loud "I don't know who you are, but I don't mind you being here if you don't mind me being here too. You leave us alone and we'll do the same for you. Good Night."
I heard the music a few times after that, but never thought much of it after that. We stayed in that house for another couple years before we moved and came to Alabama. I still don't know what it was. And for all I know, it's still there.

I'll never forget in '94 I was just out of college and was visiting family in Scotland. While there, my cousin and a college teammate of mine from Jaxville St.(he was English), decided that we would get up super early and drive 3 hrs north to go skiing in the Highlands. I'm in the backseat of the car, when my cousin(who's driving) let's out this blood curdling scream. She yells WTH is that! I look up from the back seat and see this thing that looks like the biggest bird I've ever seen in my life, it's wing span was wider than the car but it had absolutely no visible feathers or hair. It raised up just over the windshield and top of the car as we almost knicked it going under it. We were completely in the sticks when it happened and the sun had just come out, plus the fog was fairly thick. So, the thing just appeared from basically nowhere, but to this day we joke about it. The only thing I've ever seen that resembles it in pictures is a taradactile, my cousin- she to this day says it was some type of albatross. Whatever it was, I've never seen it before and I've never seen it since!

I believe that somewhere, out in this great wide world, I will find a humble AU fan. Everyone keeps telling me they don't exist, but I keep believing and hoping that maybe one day our paths will cross. So far my search has proven fruitless.

animal planet is showing newer mermaid stuff. i watched all of 1 minute before changing it over to Bizarre Foods.
Just curious - what's the difference between older mermaid stuff and newer mermaid stuff? My daughter went through a mermaid phase a couple of years ago

I'm sure this is in the previous 8 pages somewhere, but the mermaid thing is fiction. It is entirely made up.

mythical creatures? I don't have an opinion about any of them. There are some of them that I wouldn't rule out because there are a lot of critters that aren't supposed to exist... until they do (celacanth (sp?)). I do enjoy watching the shows about them, however. :)

while the older ones may have a bit of wear and tear on them, their life experience tends to provide a little extra sumpin' sumpin' that far outweighs the perky fins of the younger ones ;)
