It was for my Dad. So far it’s not as advertised. He can’t get more than 2 bars of signal which causes the throughput to be a long way below what he was told. On day one a thunderstorm came through and it had zero bars of connectivity. He has been told that he is barely on the line of the cell signal cone coming off the tower.
I’m going to have to get off what I have now as they say they are shutting it off, but was letting him be a guinea pig. I might have to go to Spectrum

. AT&T is going to go up on what I’m currently paying unless I let them auto-dip from my bank account which is a hard NO.
Going to follow up on this one. Ended up on the phone with tech support. Had me rotate the modem to face the rear toward one of the 2 towers “near” me. He couldn’t connect to the modem, but I could run a speed test. Got 25Mbps down….tech support immediately went to wanting to disconnect it as it’s not anywhere near the 90Mbps minimum threshold. (They advertise 300). Tech support finally got connected to the modem (this actually bothers me that he knew what individual modem was in our possession and was back dooring the thing and never told me or asked permission) and said we barely had any 4G or 5G signal to the device. Again he wanted to cancel it (mind you AT&T is claiming they are cutting off what service is currently had with them and this is the only solution). I kept him on the line and moved the device to another side of the house to try getting it to connect to a different tower. Finally got a single bar of service, horrible throughput. The modem keeps showing it’s not connected at all.
This whole mess compounds another issue. My Dad still has a landline, it’s free as an AT&T retiree. The phone line had a problem and had a piece of wire thrown in to splice around the problem. And the splice laid in the ditch and the county cut it…repeatedly over several years, when they mowed the side of the road. ATT went from black to white wire which is intended for inside use. Now the crackheads are stealing it. Finally had a repairman mount it up in the air after it being replaced for the 3rd or 4th time of it being stolen, on the pole again, and lightning ran in on it and melted the wire literally less than a week later. Guy came and replaced the line on Thursday or Friday but laid it in the ditch again, this morning the wire is physically gone again

. 15 years he’s been battling this!!!
I tell that to tell that ATT’s “Internet Air” product is the answer to get rid of the land lines. They want to put this device in the home and hook a “home phone” to it so your behavior of having a “home phone” doesn’t have to change. If Internet Air doesn’t work because their towers aren’t located well or doesn’t have adequate hardware then what does a customer do?
thanks for listening to the rant…
