Articles Regarding Prothro, Team This Summer

Re: Players asking same questions as fans

Summertime views
To hear Alabama football players tell it, their offensive backfield will be one of the nation's best, their mostly unproven quarterback is on track to shine and their recast defense might not miss a beat.

Of course, it is the middle of summer and optimism reigns supreme with July workouts the most tangible obstacle on a daily basis.

The Crimson Tide's media relations department set up interviews with selected players Thursday. Notably absent from the proceedings: receivers DJ Hall and Tyrone Prothro and linebacker Juwan Simpson.

Players say Prothro to take it slow
Tyrone Prothro's teammates on the Alabama football team said Thursday they expect the electric receiver to sit out the upcoming season.

Prothro is still fighting through the recovery from the grisly, compound fracture of his left leg sustained Oct. 1, 2005, in the Crimson Tide's 31-3 win over Florida.

"Superman," Crimson Tide tailback Kenneth Darby said when asked about Prothro. "He would love to be out there with us right now. But he knows that it's not his time to come.

Prothro's status uncertain
A doctor hasn't ruled out Tyrone Prothro's return to the field for the 2006 season. Alabama coach Mike Shula hasn't commented one way or the other.

Meanwhile, Prothro -- never one who was fond of media attention to begin with -- did not appear at Thursday's gathering of Crimson Tide players to assess the progress of his rehabilitation from a broken tibia and fibula suffered last season.

Hobbling Prothro likely to miss season
Tyrone Prothro's teammates say they aren't certain if the Tide wide receiver will suit up for the 2006 season, but they're preparing for him to miss the year.

"He knows it's not his time this year," running back Ken Darby said Thursday, as almost a dozen Alabama players met with the media. "He's got it down on his schedule to come back next year."

Re: Players asking same questions as fans

Could someone refresh my memory as to what type of "injury" Will is coming back from? I did not know he was hurt. They say the mind is the first thing to go and I just turned 40 on Monday......so...oh, no.

I might be wrong but if memory serves correctly it was a groin or hamstring injury!

Re: Players asking same questions as fans

my favorite:

"Coach Shula talks about discipline," said Wilson, who was suspended for one game last fall after being arrested for driving under the influence. "He talks about it every Thursday, when we have a character meeting. He talks about what is right, what is wrong, and what will happen if we do wrong. ... He'll be fair."

If for no other reason, that's why CMS is the man.

Re: Bama players expect Prothro to miss the season

i would much rather him sit out this year and be back to full strength in 07. I am just glad to hear he is walking around some without the crutches.

Re: Bama players expect Prothro to miss the season

That shouldn't surprise anyone. His injury was sickening and tough to make a full recovery from.
