As expected, Clowney picks USCe

the whole thing is getting interesting with JC now. He'll be great whereever he goes, and he'll be top 5 draft whenever he leaves college. It's just down to where he wants to spend 3 years of his life. GF in USC may be a bonus for him to go there, but anyone knows how reliable teenager relationship is.... If he's interested in hardware, Bama may be the place for him to get a couple NC rings...

But couldn't the same things be said about SC, especially with the exclusion of the SECE title this past year?

Absoultely, but at least USC currently has some momentum and looks to be a little on the rise. The clemson football program has the appearance of a sinking ship right now (at least they did before yesterday). Besides, if the Gamecocks suddenly out-of-the-blue had a signing day like clemson had, you'd be hearing a lot of people asking similar questions. Much like Bama fans were head-scratching with auburn's class last year. Before inking this class, the local betting was on whether or not Dabo would even make it thru the entire season next year. They were bad by the end of the season and nothing they have coming back leads you to believe they will be improved next year. I guess Dabo was honestly able to promise a lot of early playing time (particularly at LB where clemson has stunk for a while), because based on what they return, they could easily end up with 8 to 10 freshmen starting next year (go ahead and pencil in the LBs now).

Best case for Alabama would be for Dabo to have a losing season next year, get fired, and Saban hire him as recruiting coordinator... because if he was able to sell clemson's program to top recruits this season, he can sell anything.

I hope he's doing a good job as recruiting coordinator at Alabama in a few years, if things don't work out at Clemson.

I know Dabo is a Bama grad but I have seen those in the know on this board not share the sentiment of Dabo returning to the Capstone. Take that for what its worth.

A friend of mine had a few classes with Dabo at UA. He was in the Million Dollar Band and once told Dabo, "I see the field more than you". That was harsh;)

May have been harsh at the time, but i bet Dabo would compare bank accounts now and see who gets the last laugh!

I've been on TF for a pretty good while now and can't remember anyone in the know not share the sentiment of Dabo returning to the capstone, and as far as not seeing the field much, I wonder how many div.1 coaches saw the field much in their playing days. I bet Dabo could look the million dollar band member in the eye and give a big ol grin and ask where he is tootin his horn now a days.LOL

I know he played special teams on our national championship team. I've heard him discuss it. He talks about literally jumping up and down as the ball was about to be kicked off. High energy guy he is....still.

When Saban got here many fans wanted Dabo back at Alabama. I don't remember the gist of all of it, but Saban didn't go his direction. I think Dabo commented about being happy at Clemson and so on. I don't remember if there was more to it than that or if Dabo put out feelers for a Bama job.

I can do the research if you like on this website and pull it but there was a time in 2007 where his name came up and there many who were less than thrilled with the prospect of Dabo being on the CNS staff. I was a little surprised but had some memories back to the old days where it did not quite surprise me. I will say Dabo had himself a pretty good defensive staff up there in Clem and I said had because CNS thought awfully high of his DLine coach.

Jamie Newberg tweet. Interesting change of events...

Wow, I could see Clemson more in the mix mainly because of its location. That's the only thing killing us right now.

Seems a little late to become enamored with another school, but that seems to be the trend this year.

It would be a big surprise to see him leave SC. Could still happen though. Sometimes people like to leave home for college, despite what their mothers want.

The clemson class is a huge mystery here in SC. The press from clemson the past 3 months is fully indicative of a sinking ship. Complete coaching overhaul, Dabo can't coach his way out of a paper bag, starting qb half-.....ing it in last half of the season and openly feuding with Dabo in the media, RB inexplicably declaring for the draft when he wouldn't even start for most SEC teams, fans staying away from games in droves (thousands of empty seats for the USC-clemson "rivalry" game), etc. A team almost devoid of offense loses its top 2 offensive players, including leaving the tiggers with an unproven qb to put it politely (backup looked plain bad when he saw action this year). This is a team that has not won an ACC title, had a 10-win season, or played in a BCS-caliber bowl game in 2 decades. They looked more like the keystone cops than a college football offense much of the season. Either Dabo and company pulled off one of the great recruiting coups of all time, or there's something fishy going on in the Upstate of SC. If you think Chiz and auburn are selling koolaid, I can't imagine what clemson and Dabo are pawning to these kids. Dabo is known as a great recruiter, but he's selling refrigerators to eskimos and they are buying them up faster than he can unload them. Something gives IMO.

Let me clarify, I do not know of any cheating (though the history is there), I just can't see what is luring these kids to Pickens County, SC... and now Clowney is giving them a hard look.

I've often wondered the same thing about Clemson. They are almost always poorly coached haven't won a single important football game in over 29 years, yet they continue pulling in four and five-star recruits.

his mom does not prefer clemson, that is tiger spin at its best

With all due respect, ETG, is your opinion not chicken spin? This is what I was told by someone pretty close to the mom. It's second hand information. But it tracks with what a growing number of people are now saying -- that Clemson has become a bigger player in this than either Alabama or South Carolina may have thought.

And say what you will about his coaching ability, Dabo has always been able to recruit.
