I found both Clowney's and his mother's statements quite tongue in cheek this past week, and a little too blunt. I didn't know what to think.. I can't speak about Saban, because I don't know much about him as I do Spurrier, but I will say that if Clowney's mother didn't know what to think of Spurrier other she thought he was all "business like," I prefer Spurrier's approach than an ex-insurance salesman like Dabo Swinney, who tells kids he hardly knows he loves them, uses religion, and then proceeds to negative recruit.

Every kid out of high school has a lot to learn. I hope the UA nation doesn't get negative on JC just b/c he didn't pick us. He's a once in a ten year type of talent. So what if he said CNS liked to talk. I don't see that being insulting. CNS is short. Well yeah. Big deal. Ultimately, any 3 of the colleges he could've picked on NSD all gave him great chances to shine in football. I hate to see a lot of negative speak on him about his grades. No one bad mouthed Shannon Brown for bad grades. What a great kid Brown is for realizing he needs JUCO years to better himself. He'll be great when he comes back to UA. I know it's not everyone saying negative stuff about JC but those same people would be thrilled to have him right now and would post stuff from gamecock boards bad mouthing JC and you would defend him. I think we just need to enjoy the class we have which is amazing and enjoy the idea that our competition is getting better which means CNS can't lay off any year. That means EVERY year should be a great recruiting year for UA
I suppose Clowney's cutting remarks about Bama's HC were just to make himself feel better about his choice and try to convince the SC fans that it was USCe all the way.
My wife has a few extra pounds, but that doesn't mean I go outside and talk about it. The point is that Clowney appears to be immature and full of "I" and "ME". Kids that have that kind of attitude arrive at the next level expecting things to be given to them because of what they've done in HS. I think Clowney will not be the big deal in college as he was in HS because of that attitude. And I wouldn't be thrilled to have him even if he hadn't said negative things about our coach, but any coach. I'm glad he's a Gamecock. I'm sure we'll all be watching to see how he progresses.
I have to completely agree with you, NT. What I find amazing is the fact that this kid turned on Nick Saban like that. He was offered an opportunity to get a free ride at a stellar university and play football for one of the most successful and storied programs in the entire history of the game. I am very OK with his saying "NO" and going to USC. What I find most distasteful is the utter lack of respect for Alabama, Nick Saban, and our program. When a kid is so quick to turn on a program like that it is a strong reflection on his character. Coach Saban keeps harping on the notion of skills and character ON and OFF the field. He does that for a reason. Coach Bryant did the same thing. It's what makes not just winners, but champions.

Not just speaking about Clowney, but how many of us would want to have to deal with these type kids every day ? I know I wouldn't. My patience would wear thin very quickly. SOOOO, it's probably a good thing I'm not a coachI'm thankful that we have a number of good coaches & teachers on this board (and in my own family) who DO have to deal with them...without killin'em

And you ole Benevolent Dictator hit said nail on said head. I was a football, baseball, basketball and softball sports official for 30 plus years. I did high school football here in Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and Alabama. In Alabama I was selected by my association to "white hat" a few HS playoff games. I did HS football in Germany during my 10 years in the military there. I actually was the "white hat" for a game in the late 1980s where Eric Zeier, UGA QB, was playing I think in his 10th grade year. What I learned in all those years, was how the kids changed. The parents were always what parents are at sporting events, nut cases!! But, the attitudes of the kids are and were a large change for me. Year by year they would run their mouths more. The language that some of these kids started usiing would make a sailor run for cover. I thought I had heard the "F" word a lot in the military. Yup, but again, nope. These kids were as bad or worse in using that word. Too them it is no different than using "darn, heck, yes, no." They will use it in the company of men, women, girls, small children. It got to the point that when you could call a foul on a player, that they would actually try to stare you down, in a threat posture. Call a strike on one that did not like it, and they would look at you with death in their eyes, like "how dare you call that a strike on ME!!!" Yup, the ME Generation is what struck. It is what rules now. It is one of the things that has caused me to change from a big time sports fan, to someone who can basically take it or leave it. That includes even Alabama football. While I used to be all in on sports, no more. The ME ME ME generation of this world turned me off on it. When you get too be my age, and have seen the changes in this world, you younger fellows will come too understand what I am trying to say. Because as it is now, it will change for you in the future. You'll see.
he's a just a kid. I think he's just trying to be funny. As of now, I don't really know what type of questions the reporter asked him to get those things out of his mouth. From whatever we've seen, it seems like he was a strong Bama lean while his mom cannot drive any where beyond SC border line. He would probably have to be cocky and talk down bama a little bit to show he's true GAMECOCK. His character of not giving a d*** could be the one that made him so successful so far. However, talking about CNS in such a way is not very good. I don't think CNS even cares about what he says, but it's just annoying to read for any Bama fan. I hope he stays healthy and out of trouble till we meet on the field.

Well, I was going to be pulling for the guy until he started the trash talk. Now I hope he gets earholed or pancaked every play. If Bama plays Carolina while he's there, I want Cyrus, Fluker, or whoever lines up against him, to stomp a mudhole in his rear end and walk it dry. I don't want him hurt, mind you, I just want somebody to give him a dose of reality. a REALLY BIG dose. Oh, and while we're at it, have fun playing for a perennial, middle of the road SEC team. You both deserve each other.

Clowney comes from a very broken family...a family that includes Felon's. As a result of these crimes, some of his family can not leave the state. If part of his family can't leave the state of SC due to their crimes, then they would never get to see their kid play if the kid went to Bama. Bama doesn't have away games scheduled with SC or Clemson the next three tears....and Clowney would not have much time or gas money (unless he went to Auburn!!) to get home to see his family in SC.

I think some of Clowney's words were taken out of context by the writer in the article. I do agree that he is very 'cocky' (pun intended) and he does try to make jokes that come out in print as disrespectful. Some of his comments about making them wait for his decision, shock the world, etc. are very immature in my opinion. This is the same guy that made CSS wait while he had his dreads twisted. lol
Since that article Clowney has said he respected all the coaches and teams that were among his finalists. If that is the case then he has a funny (no pun intended) way of showing it.
