When it rains, it pours down on the plains. Bruce Pearl just announce his immediate retirement! Not a surprised to anyone, this has been in the works for awhile, but the timing is odd since BB practice starts today. His son Steve as expected will be the new HC. the barn fans are in shock mode.
Some are speculating he is entering politics which has been the rumor for quite some time.
Bruce is now saying he isn’t throwing his hat into the political ring. He will work for Auburn as special ambassador for the Athletic Department.

Do opposing coaches not point this stuff out to the refs pregame? Like “hey they are bad to grab wr’s on blitz packages from our film study, look for it”. Seems I recall Bryant did that. Even once suggested to the officials his QB was gimpy and would hate to see him get hurt and the refs ended up basically protecting the QB during the game.
Spurrier publicly called out FSU’s tendency to hit quarterbacks late right before playing them for the national championship. ACC officials usually let them get away with it, but the crew calling that game didn’t and they got flagged for it a couple of times. Given the reputation of how bad some of the SEC crews are, it wouldn’t hurt to give them a heads up. It’s getting harder to find which crew is calling a particular game, but if this is Jason Autrey’s crew there needs to be more than Auburn’s AD calling them out. They’ve changed the outcome of several games and are a big part of the reason SEC officials have such a bad name.

The errors in this game are magnified by this. For this reason this crew deserves greater scrutiny, possible suspension and maybe more.

“Oklahoma's radio voice, Toby Rowland, and other sources report that the Sooners' staff sought confirmation of the play's legality during their regular pregame meeting with officials, who then gave the play their "green light" before the game. Despite the SEC later admitting the play should have been penalized, Oklahoma maintained the play was legal because they followed the proper procedure and got the officials' approval beforehand. “

Clearly, if indeed this was a point of emphasis and this crew gave OU the go ahead, then certainly the competency of this crew should be called it question.

I think we both agree that greater competency is needed. I think officials in the college struggle to be “the best they can possibly be” because as you and I both know, they are part time. It is past time college officials serve in a full time capacity.
Could it be that the powers that be didn't give clear and/or proper instructions on the rule and its enforcement?

1996 - FSU and Mickey Andrew (DC) took every opportunity to hit QB Danny Werfel, even it was after the whistle. I’m surprised the guy walk afterwards.

I think spurrier even put together a “cut up” to show the officials what he insisted were late hits in that game.

Not that he was wrong about dirty FSU, but Spurrier is a born whiner.

Its past time to investigate the Autrey crew. I think they are crooked. But a minimum highly influenced by in game propaganda. Ron Burgundy might as well be officiating the game.
Sad thing for the SEC is the crew doing Auburn/Oklahoma wasn’t Autrey’s crew. Autrey’s and his “Cavalcade of Clowns” were in Austin working the Texas/Sam Houston State game.

The best crew IMO in this conference is David Smith and his guys. But we’ll never get them because David is a former Bama player and graduate.

I'm pretty sure he has called our games before...
