A friend of mine from Venezuela who has lived here in the States for a while was kinda an Auburn fan. Not really a die hard but more of a casual fan I guess. Anyway, I saw him in the store today and started picking at him for wearing an Auburn hat in some photos from a vacation in his home land and then in another photo he was wearing Bama gear at a Bama game. I asked him "What's up with an Auburn hat in one photo and Bama gear in another?" He replied "Well let me tell you my story. Jill's (his wife) father had extra tickets to the Tenn-Chatt game. So we went. It was my first experience of something like that. When I saw the stadium, all the people and just an awesome atmosphere I said to myself 'This is it! I'm an Alabama fan!' The atmosphere of the whole event was amazing!"

I thought it was a pretty neat story and just wanted to share with y'all!

His father-in-law just saved him from years of disappointment and bitterness. You might go as far as "he saved his life".

Ha! Awesome story! The SAME THING happened this year with my teenage daughter. My whole family (me, wife, and 3 out of 4 kids) are die hard Bama fans. My teenage daughter just "decided" that she would like Auburn because her favorite Aunt is an Auburn fan. Well, we took the whole family to the Bama/Arkansas game (all 6 of us!) and that was it! She LOVED being in the stadium, the atmosphere, the crowd, and all the tailgating/pregame activities. Now she is wearing Crimson like the rest of the family!!

Thanks for sharing! Roll TIDE!

I have a similiar story. My friend was a Gator fan that had never been to any college football games. In 2005 I got him to go with me to the Bama Fl game. He went wearing his Gator hat but in the 3rd quarter he was cheering for the Tide!!! He is now A BIG BAMA fan!!!:biggrin2::BigA:

Took my wife to Gadsden for thanksgiving to visit with my folks for the first time, we live in houston, she was born in Houston and raised a UT texas fan, after the watching the Iron Bowl with My family which is split half Alabama and Half Auburn, she converted to the tide, I believe her exact words were "I thought we were crazy about college football in texas, I had no idea"

I married a barner...I know, she married up. On to the story...my youngest son had sided with his mom and wore nothing but that orange crap till half time of the barn game 2008. He stood and proclaimed that he "was now a Tide fan and always would be". He's getting a gmac jersey for Christmas. :)

Guy I know at work had Auburn stuff all over his desk this past summer. He is now an Alabama fan and tells me "Roll Tide" every time he sees me. His wife is a big Bama fan and she, along with our players and coaching staff, has converted him.

Growing up, my father , brother, and I were, of course, die hard Bama fans. My sister as a teenager declared herself an Auburn fan. Later she married an Auburn fan and to this day she now loves Alabama and revels in Auburns misfortunes.

If I didn't know better, I'd think she just likes being contrary to the men in her life.:D

In 2007 my son was a Gator fan, he and his buddy happened up on Bama's homecoming that year. He asked the guard at one of the gates if he could just go in and take a couple of pictures and the guard said ok. To make a long story short my son called his momma that night and the first thing out of his mouth was, " I'm not even a Bama fan and I'm getting excited.

Needless to say he's on our side now:biggrin:

When I met my wife she was an FSU fan ( I know, but we can't al be perfect ) but now she wears Bama stuff all the time ( she won't let my Dad know it because she likes to argue with him ).

Quite a few people where I work ask me about Bama alot as well and seem to have Bama as their second team.

A friend who I hadnt seen in about a year was a big barn fan. He grew up a Florida fan and married a barner.... I was talking to him when i last saw him after the 36-0 beat down, I asked him why he was still a barner after he got divroced, and he didnt like the program... he said "Yeah I need to think about that"

Fast forward to last week he is a UF fan again... and thanked me for shedding light that he should not pull for that backwards cow college. He isnt a Bama fan, but thats one no longer for them....

I also have another friend that moved here from Jersey, loved pro football we went to CFL, XFL etc games when they were here and had a cowboys 49ers rivalry....he sorta liked Tennessee and told me he hated Alabama , cause some Barn fans told him when he first moved here about some (supposedly) rude Tide fans, I told him I would take him to a Bama game, and if he saw some rude tide fans, I would not root for the Tide anymore (we went to a southern miss game)

Needless to saw he saw a barn fan heckling some tide fans(At a Bama / So Miss game none the less) and he pulled for the Tide since, he told me he liked the class of the Tide fans ignoring him....

I've never understood how anyone could make a conscious decision to be a boog. I understand that family history or family pressure could lead someone down the wrong path in their formative years, but dang it, when someone gets old enough and mature enough to start making rational decisions, Alabama is clearly the only choice.

I mean, allbarn over Alabama, come on, that would be like hitting on Janet Reno over a Playboy centerfold. :conf2:

Kinda like Elton John thumbing through a Hustler magazine. It just doesn't make any sense.

One of my good friends has been a lifelong Georgia fan, his whole family is from there. We've watched so many Alabama games together though that Alabama has quickly moved to his second favorite team, this year he's even worn a few Bama shirts while watching games. I took him to Bryant Denny a few years ago and he was absolutely blown away. He is and always will be a UGA fan, but Alabama is pretty high above the rest.

Another friend has been a lifelong State fan, I took him to the 2005 Bama-LSU game and he too was blown away, from Denny-Chimes and Joe Namath's handprints to all the Gameday festivities that day, Starkville just can't compete. He couldn't admit it then, but he was starting to pull for the Tide. This past year, my fiance set him up with one of her best friends who use to work in the football department at UA and she's taken him to a few games this year. He too is and always will be a State fan, but he roots for Bama above all the rest.

It's hard not to pull for a winner.
