If we live long enough (as male) we have a great chance of having prostate cancer. From Chat.gpt:

For men aged 80 and older, the odds of having prostate cancer are quite high, but the risk varies based on factors like genetics, lifestyle, and overall health. Here are some key statistics:

  • Lifetime Risk: About 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives.
  • Age Factor: The risk increases significantly with age, and more than 80% of cases are diagnosed in men over 65.
  • Men Aged 80+: Studies suggest that over 50% of men in their 80s may have some form of prostate cancer, though many cases are slow-growing and not life-threatening.
  • Autopsy Studies: Research on men who died from other causes found up to 70-80% had prostate cancer, but many were never diagnosed or affected by it.
Since prostate cancer is often slow-growing, many men in their 80s die with it rather than from it. However, aggressive cases still occur, so regular checkups and PSA tests can help guide management.

My father is closer to 80 than 70, and has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, but it is in a distant sixth place of all health issues.

I have (had?) Prostate Cancer. For what it's worth, I was 57 when I was diagnosed. One out of 8 men will get it. Get tested. If you have Prostate Cancer, work with your Dr and learn all you can. No disrespect, but don't learn from a sports board, even one as great as this one :).

While prostate cancer is reportedly "slow growing" and often "just watched" and "the best kind of cancer if you have to have one", trust me, it sucks! The words "you have a little bit of cancer" from your Dr will change your life. If it metastasizes, it can shorten your life.

I had my prostate removed. Am two years with a PSA < 0.01. Three more years of that testing result and the medical world will deem me cancer free.

May God bless Coach Freeze and heal him from this terrible disease. And may auburn never win another game, in any sport, ever. A-men.
